XANDER WELLSXander is a senior on the Mason Boys Lacrosse TeamXander is an attackman for the Mason Comets Boys LAX Team. This past week Xander scored 6 goals and 2 assists. (Fairfield 3g, 2a, Moeller 3g). His 3rd goal against Moeller was the game-winner with 22 seconds to play in the contest. Those 3 goals helped Xander become the career points leader for the boys’ LAX program. He has totaled 187 points in his career with a few more games to play this season. Congratulations Xander!
MEGAN ELKOMegan is a senior on the Mason Girls Lacrosse TeamMegan is a two-year captain who has been leading our defense this season with her dominating play garnering a career 58 caused turnovers, 100+ ground balls. 23 interceptions over the course of 63 varsity games.Numerous times this season she has keyed on the opponents top scorers and in every situation has held them to <30% their typical output. At the annual Mason Track Invitational, 34 schools from across Ohio and Kentucky competed in dashes, hurdles, runs, and relays along with high jumps, long jumps, discus throws, shot puts, and pole vaults. Mason’s girls finished in first, 10 points ahead of Gahanna Lincoln. Mason’s boys placed second, just behind Huber Heights Wayne. Lily is a senior on the Mason Girls Track and Field TeamLily is a force of nature. There are many ways to describe her. She’s best summed up as tough, resilient, determined and above all good-humored. Lily carries these traits with her everywhere, especially onto the track where she excels as both an athlete and teammate. Lily has signed a letter of intent to run for Belmont University next fall.
Josh is a senior on the Mason Boys Track and Field TeamJosh has been a model citizen, hard worker and has produced some great times for the Comets. He is planning on running in college at Xavier University and is a fierce competitor and one of the better 100 meter dash runners in the city. Josh has been a mentor to others on the team, cares about all of the athletes around him and does what is right when no one is looking. The Girls Track Team finished as runner-up at the Centerville Elks Relays Friday night, scoring 97.48 team points. The Comets teamed up throughout the meet to compile many top places and great performances. TThe Mason Boys Tennis Team (as of April 15) is the ohiotenniszone.com third ranked team. The Comets defeated Indian Hill 5-0 in Wednesday, April 17. Earlier in the week the Comets knocked off GMC rival Sycamore 4-1. The Comets are currently 10-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The team is led by number one singles and Brown University commit Niraj Komatineni and at second singles freshman Anish Gangavaram who have yet to be defeated this season. The Mason Girls Lacrosse Team dropped a tough match up to Loveland on Thursday, April 18 13-8. Despite the loss the Comets are enjoying a successful season with an overall record of 6-3 and 5-1 in the Greater Miami Conference. The Comets sit just one game behind league-leading Sycamore. The Aves defeated the Comets earlier in the season 13-6, but the two teams will face off again on Thursday, April 25 at Sycamore. The Mason Boys Volleyball Team has opened the season with a 3-3 record. The Comets have recorded wins over West Clermont (25-16, 25-10), Lakota West (25-6, 25-18, 25-17), and Milford (25-20, 25-14, 25-15). The Comets’ three losses have been at the hands of Greater Catholic League opponents St. Xavier, Badin, and Chaminade Julienne. Statistically, Damien Sauer leads the Comets in attacks and digs.
