| 8/23 | Moeller Invite | The Mason Boys Cross Country Team opened their season on Friday night just down the road. The Moeller PrimeTime Invitational was held using the grounds of the fine folks at Christ's Church at Mason. Running under the lights, the Comets finished second to Kentucky State Champions Covington Catholic by a score of 52-55. Junior Caden Winship ran an outstanding race leading the Comets with his 5th place finish. He was followed by Senior Jason Xu in 10th, Sophomore Paras Yadav in 12th, and Senior Will Buckalew in 13th. Sophomore Eligh Amshoff rounded out the scoring for the Comets as fifth man in 15th place. Sophomore Zach Hayden (17th) and Freshman Logan Mix (18th) served as displacers.
The Comets will take a limited varsity squad and all the JV runners to the Loveland Invitation next Saturday at Home of the Brave Park. |

| 8/23 | Loveland Invite | The Mason boys cross country team journeyed just down the road to the Loveland Invitational held at Home of the Brave Park on Saturday. Running a limited varsity team, the Comets finished a fine second to the hosting Tigers. The Comets were led by freshman sensation Logan Mix in 8th place. He was followed by Senior captain Max Greco in 12th, Sophomore Collin Minogue in 15th, Luke Berkebile in 16th and Junior Carson Wyss in 17th. Suriyah Vijayakumar and Chris Millard served as displacers. The Comets will host the 50th Annual Mason Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, September 7th at Corwin Nixon Park. Races start at 9am. This Saturday, September 7th the Mason Invitational is hosting 75 teams and 2500 athletes for the 50th anniversary of our invitational.
The team is hosting schools from all over Ohio and 4 other states, including Tennessee's powerhouse Blackman HS.
The Comets should be in the mix, but they will have all they can handle with Trinity HS from KY and for the girls Talawanda HS looks very strong this season.
Come on out and see the fun, the Girls varsity team will run at 10:15 and the boys will race at 11:00am.
This is also Coach Rapp's last home meet as head coach, and we will celebrate our seniors with a special recognition at 1:00pm. On an interesting note - Ken Schmithorst organized the first invitational in 1974 and his granddaughter Kaleigha Moreland is running this year as a Mason Senior.
Lastly, check out the FREE KIDS FUN RUN @ 12:45pm. Any kids 9 and under can run a short cross country race with medals for all.

| 9/7 | Mason Invite | The Mason Comets hosted the 50th Annual Mason Cross Country Invitational on Saturday. It was a spectacular day to be outside in Mason's beautiful Corwin Nixon / Pine Hill Park. A special acknowledgement goes to former Mason Cross Country Coach Ken Schimthorst. He founded the invitational in 1974. What a legacy he has left us. Thank you Coach Schmithorst!
The Comet Boys CC team raced some great competition and finished third out of 18 teams. Kentucky's #1 Louisville Trinity emerged victorious. Mason was led by Junior Caden Winship who battled for the individual title down to the last few meters, and finished second. He was followed by Seniors Jason Xu and Will Buckalew in 9th and 10th respectively. Sophomore Eligh Amshoff and Freshman Logan Mix ran solid races to round out the Comets' scoring in 25th and 26th place. Sophomore Paras Yadav and Senior Max Greco served as displacers as 6th and 7th men for the Comets. A special thank you goes to our tireless boosters who worked endless hours to make the event happen. Thank you!
The Comets will head north to Troy next Saturday, September 15th for the Troy Invitational. |

| 9/14 | Troy Invite | The Mason Boys Cross Country team traveled to the Troy Invitational on Saturday. Enjoying the night - under the lights - format, the Comets ran to a resounding victory over a field of more than 30 teams As they ran under the lights along the Great Miami River, the Comets were led by Caden Winship who finished runner up for the second week in a row. Senior Will Buckalew and Junior Luke Berkebile were second and third for the Comets. Seniors Jasón Xu and Max Greco rounded out The scoring for the Comets. Sophomore Paras Yadav and Freshman Logan Mix served as displacers. The Comets will split the squad next weekend. The top 20ish athletes will head to Peoria, IL for the Richard Spring Invitational, while they rest of the squad will compete at the Princeton Invitational.

The Mason boys cross country team journeyed to the prestigious Richard spring invitational in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday. It was a great day for the Comets as they pulled off wins in both the open and the varsity races. Mason took down some storied Illinois programs with their tough team running tactics. As has all season, Caden Winship lead the way for the green and white. He was followed by Will Buckalew and Jason Xu. Luke Berkebile and Paras Yadav rounded out the scoring for Mason. Eli Amshoff and Logan ably served as displacers. The Comets also sent a limited squad to the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. Starting with the 26th man on the depth chart, the varsity performed well taking a solid 4th out of 12 teams. Next up for the Comet Boys is a invitational at Sycamore on Thursday. The team will run a limited varsity at this event. |

| 9/26 | Sycamore Stoneberger Invite | The Mason boys cross country team ran a limited varsity at the Sycamore Stoneberger Invitational on Thursday. Even though they held out their top guys, the Comets raced to a formidable runner-up finish to host Sycamore. Senior Chris Millard led the charge for the Comets with a fine 4th place finish. He was followed by Senior Nick Pathak in 7th and Junior Luke Young in 11th. Juniors Carson Wyss and Ethan Haaga rounded out the Comets' scoring in 12th and 14th places respectively. Junior Tommy Chen and Senior Nolan Connors served as displacers. The Comets will compete with another limited varsity on Tuesday at the CHCA at VOA Park. The next time the full squad will race will be on October 5th at the GMC Championships also at VOA.

| 10/1 | CHCA Fall Classic | The Mason Boys XC team competed with a limited varsity squad in the CHCA Fall Classic at VOA Park last Tuesday. The Comets finished second to the host CHCA squad. The Comets were led by Senior Suriya Vijayakumar in 8th place. He was followed closely by Juniors Carson Wyss, Luke Young and Tommy Chen. Senior Nick Pathak was the final scorer. | 10/5 | GMC @ VOA | The Mason Boys Cross Country Team rolled to victory in the Greater Miami Conference Championship on Saturday at VOA Park. This was Mason's 4th consecutive title and 13th overall title in the past 15 years. Mason's miniscule total of 18 points tied their second lowest point total ever. Junior Caden Winship took control of the race early and never looked back as he recorded a dominating individual victory. This outstanding feat merits Winship being named Runner of the Year. His time of 15:28 places him number six on Mason's all-time list. Winship was followed by Senior Jason Xu who ran a strong race for a runner-up finish with a solid PR. Senior Max Greco also jumped on the PR train to finish fourth overall. Junior Luke Berkebile and Senior Will Buckalew rounded out the scoring for the Comets in fifth and sixth place respectively. Sophomore Eligh Amshoff also recorded a PR as he finished seventh. The final Comet was Freshman Logan Mix in 13th place. The 1-2-4-5-6 places for the Comets earned a low score of 18 points. This ties Mason's second lowest score ever. Second place went to Sycamore with 66 points. Congratulations also goes out to head coach Tom Rapp, who will be retiring at the conclusion of the 2024 season.
The Comets Boys will have next weekend off to train for the District Championships in two weeks back at VOA Park. Mason Boys XC will be seeking their 16th overall District Title in the past 17 years.

| 8/23 | Buckeye Running Company Invite | The Mason Girls Cross Country team was in action for the first time on Friday night. The meet was on a new course to the Comets, the Oeder lake Buckeye Sunset Invitational. For the first race of the year, the Comets had to face their arch rival Hillard Davidson. The HD XC team is one of the best in the state year in and year out and will most likely be nationally ranked this year. The race went out pretty fast and the HD girls took over quickly. We put up a good fight but they were a little too much to handle. Efa Paschka took it out in a measured way, but chipped away and placed 3rd overall. Addison Stephens looked great in this first contest and had one of her best times ever. Atalia Hawkins looked strong, and ran well, with Bella Teply just behind. Our fifth and final scorer on the day was Tessa Palmer who ran great. Emily Moran and Auna Korostyshevsky also did well and looked strong as did Freshman Eva Mathur. Overall, it was a great day for the Comets and a solid start. The team took 2nd overall, but we were very encouraged with our run, and hope that Hillard Davidson is in range for later in the season. | 9/7 | Mason Invite | This past weekend's Mason Invitational was a huge success, and the parents and athletic office were a great part in making it all happen. The Comet Girls Team had many new best times, some great efforts that led to a team win in the Varsity race. The girl's started off slower than normal and let the race develop. Some teams faded late, but the Comets ran strong in the 2nd half of the course and looked tough. Efa Paschka was Mason's top scorer, with Addi Stephens not too far behind. Bella Teply had a big battle with a Madeira girl, and was our third Comet to cross the line. After Bella Tessa and Emily Moran stepped up big to fill in our 4th and 5th scoring spots to secure the win. Auna Koro was strong on Saturday as was Eva Mathur. The team battled with Talawanda and East early but pulled away late as they secured the victory with smart and tough racing. Clara Vaz was our first runner to cross the line in the open race, with Lexi Strain not too far behind. Zoe Fowler had a great day as well, with Khusbu, Julia and Nicky B all coming in not far behind. Great job ladies, and it is time to get ready for Troy next week! |

| 9/14 | Troy Invite | The Girls XC meet this weekend was at Troy Ohio on roughly what is the Regional Championship Course. The team was without our top runner Efa Paschka and another top 7 runner, Bella Teply. The team was still ready for the fight and did quite well. Mason was led by Addi Stephens who was our top racer on the day, breaking 19 and placing 6th under the lights. Next up was Atalia Hawkins who ran well and placed in the top 15. After Addi and Atalia we then had a tight pack of Tessa P, Auna K and Emily M all of whom came in within a few seconds of each other. The Comets were able to edge out GMC rivals West and Oak Hills and a large field of other regional teams for the win. Overall, the girls looked tough and ran well considering they were missing a few key players. Next up, Mason Girls XC will take their varsity to Peoria for a huge meet with some of the nation's top teams at the Richard Spring Invite. |

| 9/21 | Richard Spring Invite Peoria, Ill | This past weekend the Mason Girls XC team had a big battle in Peoria at the Richard Spring Invitational with Addi Stephens leading the way. She got out hard and raced with great courage in this 3 mile contest. Atalia Hawkins ran well and was our 2nd Comet, with Tessa Palmer, Emily Moran and Eva Mathur (Freshman) not too far back. The girls battled hard in this huge race with 60 teams and 500 racers. Without a few of our top guns, the girls faced an uphill battle, but they raced well and gave a great effort to take 13th place overall. Next up for Mason is the Sycamore Stoneberger Invite on Thursday, Sept. 26th. |

| 9/26 | Sycamore Stoneberger Invite | Mason Girls XC had a limited group compete at the Stoneberger Invite on Thursday. The team did well and ran up front from the gun. Atalia Hawkins took the lead for the first 1.5 miles and then Addi Stephens came along and ran with her until she took over for her first overall win! After Addi, we had Eva Mathur (9) kill it and take the 3rd spot on our team with Emily Moran and Mitalee Godbole placing 4th and 5th for the Comets. The team scored 37 points in this very close victory over Sycamore, and it was a true team effort. The girls ran well together and battled the Aviators to take a narrow win with Eva passing a Sycamore runner in the last 100 meters to secure the team trophy. Next for the girls team is the CHCA Fall Classic on Oct. 1st. The GMC Championships will be held Saturday, Oct. 5th at VOA. The girls team will be cometing for their 5th straight league title and 13th overall since the 2010 season. |

| 10/5 | GMC @ VOA | This past Saturday the GMC XC meet was held at historic Voice of America park. The girls ran well on this fast course, and logged many season bests, and personal bests in route to a hard fought victory. Mason had the low score on the day with 35 points, well ahead of 2nd place Oak Hills who scored 68 and West who scored 71. The team was led by Efa Paschka, who was the Comet's 1st runner and 2nd overall in the race. Atalia Hawkins had a great day, and was the Comets 2nd runner across the line, with a new PR. Next was Addi Stephens who battled tough and took 7th overall. Mason's 4th runner was a surprise; Auna Korostyshevksy, ran great, had a huge PR and scored for the first time this year, with Bella Teply just behind her. All of these young ladies were first team all GMC and put together a low score of 35 to win the day! Emily Moran and Tessa Palmer also ran tough to round Mason's varsity team, and seal the deal on the Mason girls 5th straight GMC Title and 13th overall since 2010. This group of girls had a great team effort and look to be coming together for the post season. In the JV race, Eva Mathur and Mitalee Godbole battled it out for the first 2 spots, and huge new PRs. Overall, it was a great day, with many season best and life-time best times. The 2024 District Championships will be held on Saturday, October 19th at Voice of America Park. The Mason Girls will be seeking their 6th consecutive District Title and 17th overall in program history as a Division 1 team. |

| 8/3 | Sycamore Invite | On Saturday, August 3, the Mason Boys participated in the Sycamore Invitational at Blue Ash Golf Course - a season-opening event for many Southwest Ohio Boys Golf programs. The Comets finished 3rd out of 18 teams with a team score of 309 and were led by seniors Thomas Niere with a score of 74 and Ben Morneau with a score of 75. | ||||
| 8/5 | East Invite | On Monday, August 5, the team played in the Lakota East Invitational at Shaker Run Golf Club. Mason posted a team score of 319 and finished 6th among 20 teams. The Comets were again led by senior Ben Morneau with a score of 75 (finishing T8 out of 100 individual golfers). The Lakota East Invitational was won by state-championship-favorite Dublin Jerome. | ||||
| 8/9 | Mt. Vernon INvite | On Friday, August 9, the Comets traveled to Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to compete in the Arrow Invitational at Chapel Hill Golf Course. Mason scored 299 and finished 3rd of 19 teams, most of whom were from the Columbus area. St. Xavier, the only other Southwest District team participating, was in 4th place at 304. The Comets were close to winning the event, as St. Charles placed first at 293, and New Albany finished second with a team score of 296. Senior Blake Ernst led Mason with a score of 73, placing him in a tie for 7th among 95 individual players. Seniors Thomas Niere and Carson Hendy were in the top 20 each with a score of 75.

| 8/10 | St. X Invite | On Saturday, August 10, the Comets Boys Varsity Green golf team participated in the St. Xavier Invitational tournament at Maketewah Country Club. Mason posted a team score of 312 - a 41-shot improvement over last year's team score - and finished 8th in an elite field of 15 teams from all around Ohio.
Senior Ben Morneau was the low scorer for the Comets with a 77. Thomas Niere (12) & Carson Hendy (12) each shot 78. Curtis Crimmins (11) posted the team's final counting score of 79. Blake Lockhart (12) posted Mason's 5th score of 82, so all 5 Mason players scored below the 94-player field's average score of 83.8.
The Comets compete again today (8/12/24) in the 24-team Eagle Classic at York Country Club in Worthington (Columbus), Ohio. Today's tournament is hosted by Columbus Bishop Watterson High School.

| 8/15 | Denison Invite | On Thursday, August 15, Mason traveled to Granville, Ohio, to compete in the Rodney Butt Classic Invitational Golf Tournament at Denison University Golf Club. Rodney Butt was the longtime PGA Professional at the course when it was formerly known as Granville CC, and this tournament - hosted by Granville HS and featuring both a morning and an afternoon flight for teams from all around Ohio - is named after him. The Comets posted a team score of 312 on another unfamiliar golf course and finished 7th in an 18-team field. Junior Curtis Crimmins had the team's best score with a 75, missing the all-tournament team by only 4 strokes. Senior Blake Lockhart had the second best score for the team, posting a 77, while senior Ben Morneau had the team's third score in the 70's, a round of 79. Seniors Blake Ernst and Carson Hendy each posted a score of 81 on the par-71 track in an event held on another day of spectacular golf weather.
According to the GMC website, the very deep Mason Comets team currently has 6 players in the top 15 for individual scoring average in the GMC. However, none of those players are in the top 6, as all are currently ranked between 7th and 15th. Mason will continue to try to bring down their averages in their next two tournaments, this Saturday 8/17 at Walden Ponds Golf Club in the Moeller Invitational, and again on Monday 8/19 at Heatherwoode Golf Club in the Springboro Invitational. A shift back to more familiar courses might help the scoring averages, but worse weather is predicted over the next few days - which might make scoring conditions more difficult.

| 8/17 | Moeller Invite | On Saturday, August 17, the Mason Boys Golf Team entered the prestigious Moeller Invitational at Walden Ponds for the first time. The Comets were competing on a very familiar course but in some difficult conditions - the course was stretched out to its full 7,002 yard length, and the wind was strong throughout the day. Mason shot 316 and finished in a tie for 8th place among 22 teams. Seniors Ben Morneau (77) & Blake Ernst (79) posted steady rounds, while junior Curtis Crimmins eagled the final hole - nearly holing a 7-iron from 199 yards - to post a score of 78. | ||||
| 8/19 | Springboro Invite | On Monday, August 19, the Comets traveled to Springboro to compete in the annual Springboro Invitational at Heatherwoode Golf Club. It was another windy, difficult day on a long golf course, but Mason was able to improve their score from Saturday by 19 shots, posting a team total of 297. This season-low team total was good enough for a 7-shot victory over 2nd place Kettering Alter, the defending D2 State Champions. Among the other 16 teams in the event were GMC rivals Sycamore and Lakota East as well as the defending GMC Champions, Lakota West.
Seniors Ben Morneau and Thomas Niere led the Comets, each with excellent rounds of 72 (+1), while seniors Blake Ernst (76) and Carson Hendy (77) provided the 3rd and 4th scores. Junior Curtis Crimmins shot a score of 78 for the team's 5th place score. Mason posted an especially strong team total score of 141 (-3) on the front nine. In the shotgun start, the front nine at Heatherwoode became the first 3-4 and the last 5-6 holes Mason's for individual players, so the Comets had both a strong start and a strong finish. The team competes next in the Bellbrook Invitational this Saturday at Sugar Valley Country Club in Bellbrook.

| 8/24 | Bellbrook Invite | On Saturday, August 24, the Mason Comets Boys Varsity Green Golf Team traveled to their 9th Invitational tournament of the season. The Bellbrook Best of the Southwest Invitational was held at Sugar Valley Country Club and was hosted by the Bellbrook High School Golden Eagles golf team. Mason finished fourth in a strong field of 18 teams, seven strokes out of first place.
Leading the way for the Comets was senior Thomas Niere with a fine score of 75 on the par-71 course. Thomas tied for 9th individually in the tournament and missed out on making second-team all-tournament only by a tie-breaker. Junior Curtis Crimmins had a score of 76, and senior #1 player Ben Morneau added a 77 to put the Comets in good position for a top-five finish. Seniors Blake Ernst (82) and Carson Hendy (83) rounded out the scoring on a very warm day on the golf course where patience with the firm, slick greens was a constant necessity. The team missed its two individual tournament scoring goals (one player to shoot 72 or less and a fourth score of 78 or less) by only 3 or 4 strokes each. Those 7 strokes total were the only difference between first place Elder's score of 303 and the Comets' score of 310.
Mason next tees it up on Monday 8/26 in a Quad match at Shaker Run at 4:00 pm against the defending GMC champions from Lakota West, Fairfield, and Mason White. Later in the week, the Comets have an unusual dual match with a GCL powerhouse school - the team that won yesterday's tournament - Elder High School at Miami Whitewater Forest Golf Course. |

| 8/26 | vs. East and Mason B | On Monday, August 26, the Mason Boys Golf Team played their 10th competition of the year, reaching the halfway point of the regular season prior to Labor Day. This competition was the team's first 9-hole match following 9 consecutive 18-hole tournaments and was the first Home event of 2024 for Mason Green. Senior Thomas Niere was the match medalist with a fine score of 2-under-par 34. Sophomore Jaxson Hutzelman - competing in the starting lineup for Mason Green for the first time in his career - posted a score of 39.
The match was played at Shaker Run and was moved by the golf course staff at the last minute onto the Lakeside nine instead of the nine that the team typically plays, the Meadows layout. However, everyone adjusted well, and it was important to keep the ball in play on a hot day in an event held on a dried-out golf course. Defending GMC Champions, the Lakota West Firebirds, were the victors in the Quad match with a team score of 150. Mason Green finished second with a score of 155; Mason White was third with a score of 171; and Fairfield finished fourth with a team total score of 180.
The Comets return to Shaker Run TODAY, Wednesday for their next match where they'll be competing against another league rival, Lakota East.

| 8/29 | at Elder at Whitewater | On Thursday, August 29, the Comets Varsity Green Boys Golf Team played Elder in a 9-hole non-league match at Miami Whitewater Golf Course. It was a very hot afternoon on an unfamiliar golf course, and Mason was competing without its usual #3 and #4 players, but the Comets left the course with a great score of 151 and a 6-stroke victory in the match over a formidable opponent.
Leading the way for the Comets was senior Ben Morneau. Playing on his 18th birthday, the recently-named Mason High School Athlete of the Week was steady throughout the match. He overcame a three putt on the first green with 3 birdies later in the round to take medalist honors with a score of 34 (-2) on the front nine at Whitewater. Senior Thomas Niere was close behind him with an even-par 36. Senior Brooks Gholz, playing in his first-ever match on Varsity Green, contributed a steady round of 40, while two other seniors, Carson Hendy and Blake Lockhart, recorded scores of 41. Sophomore Jaxson Hutzelman shot a 42 for Mason's sixth score.
The Comets now have 5 days off from competition before playing in the Greater Miami Conference tournament next week on Wednesday and Thursday, September 4th and 5th, at 8:30 am each morning at Walden Ponds Golf Club. The stakes at this event are high, as the league team standings for the entire season are determined solely by the result of this 36-hole tournament. All-conference individual honors for 1st- and 2nd-team All-GMC will also be determined by the individual results across this two-day event. |

| 9/4 | GMC at Walden | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Mason Boys Golfers Win the GMC Championship at Walden Ponds The Mason Comets Boys Golf Team clinched their fourth GMC title in five seasons on September 4th and 5th at Walden Ponds. After placing third in 2023, the Comets surged ahead of defending champions Lakota West to capture their fifth overall title. This year’s GMC Tournament took place earlier than usual due to adjustments in the statewide schedule, specifically the Cincinnati West Sectional, which includes four GMC schools. The Comets’ rigorous schedule, featuring nine 18-hole tournaments before the GMC event, prepared them well for the challenge. Lakota West, returning with most of their starting lineup, appeared poised to defend their title. However, Mason took the lead by the end of the front nine on Day 1 and gradually extended it over both days. Mason posted their best 18-hole score of the season on Day 1, recording a team score of 291, securing a 4-stroke lead over Lakota West. They repeated the 291 on Day 2, widening the margin to 17 strokes to clinch the title. Senior Ben Morneau led the Comets, shooting back-to-back rounds of 2-under-par 70, finishing second individually with a total of 140. Senior Thomas Niere followed closely with rounds of 71 and 72, placing third overall. Junior Curtis Crimmins bounced back from an opening 75 to shoot a final round of 70, tying for fourth with a total of 145. Senior Blake Ernst contributed rounds of 75 and 79, while senior Blake Lockhart posted scores of 76 and 79. All five Comets golfers earned 1st-team All-GMC honors for finishing in the top 12 individually. Senior Carson Hendy shot rounds of 82 and 86, securing a tie for 21st place and earning 2nd-team All-GMC honors. Head Coach Keith Brackenridge was named the GMC 2024 Coach of the Year. Next, the Comets will face a busy schedule with three 18-hole tournaments in the next four days: in Findlay on Saturday, Glenview on Sunday, and the Kettering Alter Invitational in Dayton on Monday. With the GMC Tournament results finalizing the league standings, Mason’s Boys Golf Team will add 11 points toward the All-Sports Trophy. | 9/7 | Findlay Invite | On Saturday, September 7th, the Mason Boys Varsity Green Golf Team was back in action at the Findlay Invitational, held at Findlay Country Club near Toledo. The Comets shot a team score of 300 and finished 3rd in a 12-team field featuring teams from Cincinnati, Columbus, Toledo and Cleveland. Cincinnati St. Xavier was first with a tournament-record score of 288, while Dublin Jerome was second with a score of 295.
Leading the way for Mason was the team's #4 player, senior Blake Ernst. Blake putted extremely well on unfamiliar greens and finished with a score of 71 (-1) and in a 3-way tie for 2nd place in the 60-player field. Senior Thomas Niere had the team's next best score of 75, while senior Ben Morneau and junior Curtis Crimmins each shot 77 to round out the team's "best 4 of 5" scoring. Sophomore Jaxson Hutzelman, playing in his first 18-hole competition for the Green team, had a score of 84. The players and coach enjoyed a formal dinner - coat and tie required - provided in the clubhouse by the Findlay Country Club members after the event. The Comets tee it up again this afternoon at 1:30 at Glenview Golf Course in the Hadley Invitational hosted by the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association. Mason Green is the defending tournament champion today, and the event is being held on the course that will host the Cincinnati East Sectional tournament on September 25th.

| 9/8 | Hadley Invite | On Sunday, September 8, the Mason Comets Boys Varsity Green Golf Team played in the Hadley Classic Tournament sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati Golf Association and held at Glenview Golf Course. The Comets were the champions of the 2023 event (their only tournament victory of that season). Mason posted a team score of 302 and won a hard-fought victory over the Anderson Raptors, who also had a team score of 302, via the 5th man's score of 79 for Mason vs. 80 for Anderson - a successful title defense for Mason!
The team's low score belonged to senior Blake Lockhart with a one-over-par round of 73. Senior Thomas Niere shot 75; senior Ben Morneau had 76; senior Blake Ernst scored 78; and finally, junior Curtis Crimmins posted the team's 5th score of 79 that allowed them to win on the tie breaker. The team title was Mason's 2nd tournament championship in the past 3 days (following their GMC Championship on Thursday), and it was the team's 3rd tournament victory of the year.

| 9/9 | Alter Invite | On Monday, September 9, the Mason Boys Varsity Green Golf Team traveled to Dayton to participate in the Kettering Alter Invitational at Miami Valley Golf Club. The team encountered a difficult, dried-out golf course with severely sloped greens. The Comets persevered to an 8th place finish in a field of 21 teams. With the Comets playing their 5th 18-hole tournament round in the last 6 days, a few players were able to get a spot in the lineup for their first 18-hole event of the year. Senior Aiden Huss finished best among those 3 players with a score of 89, while sophomore Josh Morneau and senior Brooks Gholz each shot 93 for the Comets.
Seniors Ben Morneau and Thomas Niere were in their usual locations for Mason, playing in the #1 and #2 lineup spots. Ben recorded a steady round of 72(+1) at Miami Valley, navigating the sloped greens with consistent putting. He finished in a tie for 1st place in the 105-player field and received a plaque as the runner-up medalist on the day via a score card playoff. Thomas recorded a wild round of 75(+4) - one in which he was +8 at one point in the round before posting 4 birdies to bring his score back to only 4 over par. The round of 75 was good enough for an individual T3 finish among 105 players.
Mason tees it up next this Wednesday, September 11, in a Quad Match at Shaker Run Golf Club at 4:00 pm. The opponents in that match will be Sycamore, LaSalle and Mason White. |

| 9/11 | vs. Lasalle and Mason B | On Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024, the Boys Varsity Green team competed in a Quad Match at Shaker Run Golf Club on the Meadows course. The Comets swept the match with a score of 155 to stretch their record in 9-hole matches for the year to 6-1. Team scores were as follows: Mason Green 155; LaSalle 164; Sycamore 169; and Mason White 176.
The match medalist was Mason senior Ben Morneau - who recorded an excellent score of 35 (-1) on a difficult course with tucked-away hole locations - to lead the Comets. Senior Thomas Niere had the team's only other sub-40 score of 38. Rounding out the scoring for Mason were junior Curtis Crimmins with a 40 and seniors Brooks Gholz with 42, Carson Hendy with 43 and Aiden Huss with 44. Junior Sam O'Donnell led the White team with a score of 42.
Mason tees it up next in their annual Scrimmage with Moeller at Glenview Golf Course on Thursday, September 19. This late-season scrimmage has become a recent annual tradition between the two schools as it allows them both to prepare for the Cincinnati East Sectional to be held on the same course the next week. |

| 9/21 | Medina Invite | On Saturday, September 21, the Mason Varsity Green Boys Golf Team traveled to Medina to play in an Invitational held at Westfield Country Club South. The team played well on their longest trip of the year to an event held on the outskirts of Cleveland, but Mason came up just short of a victory in the 6-team select-field event. Stow won the tournament with a score of 304. Cleveland St. Ignatius was 2nd with 309. Mason finished 3rd at 310. Toledo St. John's was 4th at 316. Cincinnati St. Xavier was 5th at 317, and the host team Medina finished 6th with a score of 318.
Leading the way for the Comets was senior Thomas Niere with an excellent score of 73 that earned him a tie for first place in the 30-player field. Senior Ben Morneau tied for 8th with a score of 77. Senior Blake Ernst and junior Curtis Crimmins each recorded a score of 80, while senior Blake Lockhart recovered from his slow start of 44 on the front nine with a score of 37 on the back nine for a total of 81. The team score of 310 was very solid on a completely unfamiliar course.

| 9/25 | Sectional at Glenview | The Comets Boys Golf Team competed in the Cincinnati East Sectional Qualifier at Glenview Golf Course (West & East nines) on Wednesday, September 25. There were 15 teams competing in the event, each hoping to earn one of the four qualifying spots for the District meet. Mason posted a very good team total of 295 (only +7 for the team for the day) but came up one shot short of advancing, as they lost to Moeller (291), Lakota West & Loveland (293), and Anderson (294). Senior Thomas Niere shot his MHS career-best round of 68 to lead Mason, and he earned one of the four individual qualifying spots to the District meet that are available to players not on a qualifying team. Senior Ben Morneau recorded a steady round of 73 and just missed out on the playoff at 72 among 3 other golfers for the final individual qualifying spot. Junior Curtis Crimmins shot 76, and senior Blake Ernst shot 78 to contribute to the team total. Senior Blake Lockhart recorded a round of 80 that would have been good enough to help the Comets advance on a 5th-score tie-breaker if it had come to that, but Anderson finished a single shot better than Mason. Mason next competes in its last regular-season match of the year at TPC River's Bend on Tuesday, October 1. Also participating in the Quad match - a Senior Night activity for the host school Kings - will be Sycamore and Tippecanoe. Thomas Niere will compete as an individual in the District meet at Pipestone Golf Club on Monday, October 7, competing for one of the 3 individual qualifying spots to the State Championship that are available to players not on a qualifying team. |

| 10/1 | @ Quad at TPC | The Mason Boys Varsity Green Golf Team concluded their regular season on Tuesday, October 1, by participating in a Quad match at TPC River's Bend hosted by Kings and including Sycamore and Tippecanoe. The Comets went 2-1 on the night after posting a score of 165, losing to the host school Kings on their Senior Night when they scored 155, and defeating Tippecanoe (169) and Sycamore (172). The course was long and difficult after 5 consecutive days of rain.
Mason's Ben Morneau, a senior competing in the final match of his career, led the team with a score of 38 (+2) and was runner-up medalist on the evening. Ben started his round 4-over-par through his first four holes, but then he played the final 5 holes in 2-under-par to close out his Mason golf career with a strong finish. Senior Thomas Niere - competing in his final tune up match before he plays in the District meet next Monday - posted a 42. Junior Curtis Crimmins also scored 42. The lineup was completed on Tuesday night by three juniors receiving their first start for the Varsity Green team. Drew Freeman (43), Alex Chamberlain (44) and Sam O'Donnell (51) all represented Mason well and are looking forward to the 2025 season.
Mason's team competitions have concluded for the year. Thomas Niere tees off at 10:55 am on hole #10 at Pipestone Golf Club on Monday, October 7, in the Southwest Ohio District meet. Thomas will compete for one of the 3 individual spots in the State Championship available to those players not on one of the 3 qualifying teams. |

| 10/7 | District @ Pipestone | Thomas Niere (12) got off to a great start at the Boys Division 1 District Golf meet at Pipestone Golf Club on Monday, October 7, going 1-under through his first four holes. His game then went cold for a short time as he played the next four holes in 5-over-par, before returning to form and making 6 consecutive pars - many of which were tap-ins after a near-miss for birdie. Finally, needing 3 birdies in the final 5 holes to reach a playoff for a spot in the state championship, he looked over a 30-foot putt for birdie on his 14th hole. His perfectly-struck putt bounced off the flagstick instead of falling into the hole, sapping the momentum that would have been needed for a magnificent finish in order to qualify for and win a playoff. After a couple more bogeys over the last few holes, Thomas ended the day with a score of 79.
The Boys Golf Team has now concluded its season, posting two victories in Invitational Tournaments, winning the GMC Championship, and going 7-2 in 9-hole matches. The team's scoring average of 153.54 per 18 (across 324 holes played during the season) was excellent. Rounds of 291-291 at Walden Ponds led to a GMC title, and the team's score of 295 at the Sectional would have been good enough to qualify for the District meet in any other year before - just not this year. Five players made first-team all-GMC, and the team concludes the season with 5 players in the top 13 in the list of 9-hole scoring averages in the GMC, holding down places 2, 3, 9, 11 and 13. With 8 seniors graduating from the program, there will be lots of opportunities for the Comets younger Boys Golfers in the 2025 season. |

The Comets opened the scoring in the 23 minute after Dylan Chang fought off 3 defenders to slot a pass to Marcos Neto who beat his defender and drove the ball past the goalie. In the 37th minute, Donnie Carmany took the ball away from an Oak Hill attacker, found Grady Krueger on the wing who passed to a streaking Julien Neuburger who crossed to Tair Begzhan for the goal. In the 44th minute, Grady stuffed the striker to get the attack started and Marcos picked the pocket of the defender then found John Harris who put the ball in the back of the net.

| 9/21 | GCTCA Coaches Classic | The top-ranked Comets placed first in GCTCA Coaches' Classic on Saturday. Coach Mike Reid split the squad in half, entering an A and a B team in flight A which also had teams from Sycamore (5th ranked), St. Ursula, and Indian Hill (ranked #1 in D2). The "A" team took first place (21pts). edging Indian Hill by one point. The "B" squad took third place with 15 points. The Aviators finished fourth with 12 points and St. Ursula had seven points. Senior, Sonal Marla offered her thoughts on the tournament. "I think that this tournament really showed how deep this team is. We were missing two of our top players in Patryusha and Addison and we were still able to win the tournament." Marla's co-captain, senior Harshita Ganga added, "This was a great opportunity for some of the kids who don't get as much playing time to show that they can play with the best in the city." The Comets again showed that doubles is their strength. Mason won both doubles flights with the A team and the B team was runner up in each. In Singles the Comets placed second at #1 singles and at #2 singles. Flight winners: Moreno and Singidi at #1 doubles, Gotike and Zhang at #2 doubles.
2nd place: Wagner at #1 singles, Podili at #2 singles, Marla and Ganga at #1 doubles, and Chandrasekar and Srinivasan at #2 doubles.

The Comets totaled 51 points for the 2024 GMC Championship over Sycamore's 2nd place 42 points. The event was moved indoors on Saturday due to rainey conditions from Hurricane Helene. Patryusha Chaudhuri, 2nd place This was Mason's 12th overall league title since entering the GMC in 2008. The Comets are undefeated this season with an overall record of 14-0 and 9-0 in the GMC and ranked #1 in the latest state polls. The Girls Tennis program is seeking their 8th consecutive OTCA State Title this fall. Mason is co-coached by Mike Reid and Leighton Jones. The Comets will begin Sectional play Wednesday, 10/2 and conclude on Saturday, 10/5. Qualifications from the Sectional to the District Tournament will be four (4) singles and four (4) doubles.

Mason had a good day at the SW District Finals on Thursday. The Comets took first and second place in doubles and 2nd, 3rd and 4th in singles.
Pratyusha Chaudhuri and Emma Wagner (last year's state champs) defeated teammates Bhavana Singidi and Adriana Moreno 6-4, 6-1 in the final. In the semifinals, Chaudhuri and Wagner dispatched the Oak Hills duo of Lint and Harper 6-3, 6-1. Singidi and Moreno reached the final with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Sycamore's Sayles sisters. Addison Cassidy beat teammate Saanvi Reddy 6-2, 6-0 in the semis and then lost a hard-fought final to St. Ursula's Maria Poon 7-5, 7-6. Reddy beat Comet junior, Ana Gotike for third place 6-4, 6-0. All seven Comets who entered the District qualified for next week's OHSAA State tournament in Wooster. This is the first time in school history that the Comets have placed the entire team in the OHSAA individual tourney. The OHSAA State Tournament is slated for next Thursday/Friday, October 17-18 at the College of Wooster. Mason is also alive in the OTCA team tournament; they will play Anthony Wayne in the state semifinals. The OTCA State Tournament will be held at the College of Wooster on Saturday, October 19.
