Mason allowed the Warriors a total of 5 five points in the 2nd and 4th quarter. The offense produced 50% shooting from the field while holding Lebanon to just 22%. The Comets got balanced scoring from three players that scored in double figures: Eddie Puisis 12, Blake Benjamin 12, and Cameron Arminio 11. Mason will host their first home game this Tuesday when they entertain Princeton. |

Mason never trailed and got double-digit scoring from Kyle Lamotte (15), Spencer Cline (13) and Matt King (11). Mason's man-to-man defense set the tone and didn’t allow the hosts to find an offensive rhythm until late in the contest. The Comets, who are tied with Lakota East for first place in the GMC, shot 45.9 percent from the floor and sank 21 of 23 free throws. They led 32-21 at halftime. Next up Mason will host Sycamore (1-4) on Friday night. Over winter break the team will host Loveland on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd and Trotwood-Madison on Saturday, Dec. 27th. Mason is undefeated at 4-0 and ranked #5 in the latest city polls.

The team shot 12 of 26 behind the arc and made 14 of 17 charity tosses. Mason was led by Arminio with 20 and Rodney Hutchinson with 17. The Comets are ranked #7 in the latest D1 state polls and are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the GMC. They will host Colerain on Friday, January 9th. |

The Comets push their undefeated record to 12-0 tying a school record for best season start. The Mason boys 1967-68 team also jumped out to 12-0 start. Mason racked up their 19th win of the season against NO losses last night setting up a season finale at Lakota East this Friday night with a lot on the line. The Comets defeated Oak Hills on Tuesday by a score of 67-41. The win was just another in a string of "workmanship style" victories. Mason has seen only two games (Trotwoood and Princeton) in the 2014-15 season that would be considered "close calls". The team's winning margin thru 19 opponents has averaged almost 25 points per games. Mason won in typical fashion against the Highlanders with three players scoring in double figures: Kyle Lamotte 18, Cameron Arminio 14 and Blake Benjamin 12. The Comets shot 53% from the field. Mason will face the Thunderhawks (19-2 and 14-1) for the first time this season this Friday. An defeated regular season (first in modern day program records) and securing the teams first GMC Championship since entering the league in 2007 will be at stake. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as a capacity crowd is expected in the Lakota East gymnasium. ***PLEASE NOTE...Freshman will tipoff at 4:00 PM and JV at 5:30 PM to accommodate East's senior night recognitions that evening. Mason has earned the #1 seed in the upcoming OHSAA Division 1 Sectional Tournament. The Comets will play the winner of the Anderson/Harrison contest at Hamilton, 6:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4th.

The Boys Basketball team fell to the Thunderhaswks in overtime last Friday in front of packed house at East. Mason fought their way back from a 13-point deficit during regulation. Mason junior guard Kyle Lamotte sent the game to overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer and sophomore Matt Kings gave the Comets their first lead with a 12-footer in overtime. East quickly reversed the score with a three-point tray of their own, then held on the rest of the way to gain a share of the 2015 GMC Title with the Comets. This is Mason's first league championship and East's third. Senior Cameron Arminio scored 19 points, 15 on 3-pointers, and Lamotte finished with 15 to lead Mason (19-1, 15-1). The Comets finish their regular season schedule as the Enquirer's Division 1 City Champion and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming OHSAA Division 1 Sectional Tournament. Mason will play the winner of the Anderson/Harrison contest at Hamilton, 6:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4th. It will be mentor vs student on Wednesday, March 4th when Mason (#1 seed) plays Anderson (#21 seed) at Hamilton in the 2nd round of the Sectional tourney. Coach Richards former assisstant coach, Chris Delotell, is in his first year as Anderson's head coach.
The Redskins (11-12) defeated Harrison 54-46 last Saturday to advance. Tip off is slated for 6:00 PM.

won | 64-44 | 20-1 | 15-1 | COMETS ADVANCE IN POST SEASON! MASON VS. LASALLE TONIGHT! The Mason boy's basketball team took another step in the OHSAA Sectional Tourney last night with a 64-44 win, improving their overall mark to a program record of 20-1. The game was a matchup with former varsity assistant Chris Delotell's Anderson Redskins. Mason jumped out to a first quarter 18-7 lead and went into halftime with a comfortable 36-24 advantage. The Comets forced Anderson into 19 turnovers. Senior Rodney Hutchison led Mason with 19 points while Micheal Beebe dished out 6 assists. The win sets up a classic GMC-GCL rematch with Lasalle HS 19-5) TONIGHT (March 6) at the Xaviers' Cintas Center. The Lancers defeated a pesky Hamilton team 65-52, also last night, to punch their ticket to tonights Sectional Championship. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm. The two teams met last season, also in the sectional final, with Lasalle coming away with a 65-48 victory. The winner advances to the District Championship next Saturday, March 14th at UD Arena. lost | 43-41 | 20-2 | 15-1 | The boy's basketball team', magical season, came to a disappointing conclusion on Friday night in the Sectional Final. Mason fell to LaSalle, 43-41 to finsih end their 2014-15 campaign at 20-2. Mason built a solid lead early in the contest and led 14-4 after the first quarter of play. The Lancers began to rally toward the end of the first half, but the Comets still led by 8 going into halftime. In the third quarter, Mason saw their lead evaporate with some hot outside shooting by their opponent. The Comets scored just 15 points in the second half on 38.5 percent shooting. Mason hadn't been held under 57 points in a game all season. It was a see-saw affair until the final few minutes. LaSalle got a rebound under the Mason basket and drilled a three-pointer with 1:46 left giving them the lead for good the rest of the way. This year's team provided many thrills and highlights including their first-ever GMC title (shared with East). Their overall record ranks them as one of Mason's best all-time boys teams. Congratulations to our players and coaches on an outstanding season! |

1/14 | Alter | lost | 52-43 | 11-1 | 8-0 | Mason suffered their first loss of the season on Thusday night by a score of 52-43 to a very good Kettering Alter team before a capacity crowd in the Mason gym. It was showdown of the states top D1 and D2 girls teams who were both undefeated entering the contest. The talent on the court Wednesday night — drew college scouts from Indiana, Xavier, and Dayton. Mason and Kettering have combined for five state finals appearances including two titles. The Comets trailed 19-9 early in the second quarter but finished the half on a 7-3 run to trim Alter's lead to 26-21. It was the first time this season that Mason trailed at the half. Just as she did toward the end of the first half, Lauren Van Kleunen provided a spark for the Comets. Her 3-point play made it a two-point game early in the third quarter. But Alter (13-0) had an answer for every Mason spurt. Junior forward Lauren Van Kleunen scored 20 points and junior guard Jailyn Mason added 10 for the Comets (11-1), who are ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer Division I coaches' poll. Next up the Lady Comets play Newark and Solon at the Classic in the Country showcase in Berlin, Ohio, this Saturday and Sunday. Tip times are 6:20 and 6:40, respectively. Go Lady Comets! |

West shot 50 percent from the field in the first half while Mason shot 25.9 percent from the field. Mason held the rebounding advantage 17-16 in the first half. Mason cut the lead to nine points a couple of times in the third quarter but the Firebirds led 44-33 by the start of the fourth and extended its lead to 50-33 with 5:27 left. Mason junior forward Lauren Van Kleunen had a game-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Samari Mowbray added 12 points. The Lady Comets will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday when they visit Sycamore.

Kettering Fairmont earned a mild 55-47 upset win over the Lady Comets at Harrison to advance in the postseason. The team got outstanding individual contributions from juniors Lauren Van Kleunen (19 points) and Jailyn Mason (16 points). Van Kleunen notched another double-double with 11 rebounds. 1/24 | Centerville Invite | 1st place | Mason Gymnasts Remain Undefeated The Lady Comets continued their 2014-15 winning streak at the Elk Invitational held at Centerville High School, Saturday, January 24, 2015. With 11 schools in attendance, Mason came out on top with a 137.45 over Centerville who scored a 134. Finishing third was Troy with a 133.6. The Lady Comets have competed and finished first in all five Invitationals this season – Forest Hills Flip Fest, Indian Cup, Flipping in the Hills, Northmont Invitational, and the Elk Invitational. Mason had 4 gymnasts in the all-around top 8 with Crystal Kratzer finishing 4th, Gabby Sora 5th, Jessie Clark 6th, and Donna Soltis 8th. Senior Gabby Sora earned a season high of 9.05 on vault (2nd) while freshman Jessie Clark came in 8th with an 8.3. Senior Crystal Kratzer also cracked the 9.0 mark with a 9.15 on bars, also a season high, which earned her first place. Gabby Sora finished 5th and freshman Donna Soltis 7th. On beam, Soltis finished 2nd with an 8.9, her highest season score, while Clark finished 5th, also with a high season score of 8.75. Senior Night will be held Saturday, February 7, at Gymnation where the Comets hold practices. All are welcome to attend. The program begins at 6:00 pm.

The Lady Comets were making their 6th consecutive appearance at state. Overall as a team, Mason finished 7th behind some strong competition. The highlight of the day came with Crystal Kratzer being crowned State Champion with a 9.25 on thebars. Crystal made history by being Mason’s first and only State Champion in Gymnastics.

The boys swim team fell to always tough Upper Arlington on Saturday by a score of 99-84. The guys swam well at the event against some very good athletes. The boys team was lead by Junior Joel Thatcher who won 2 individual races in the 200 IM & 100 Freestyle. Senior Justin Hove won the 100 Butterfly, while Allen Feng won diving. Next up for the Comets is the Coaches Southwest Classic on January 17-18th. This is the largest high school swim meet in the nation with preliminary sets being held at 9 locations throughout the southwest district, with the top 16 qualifiers competing at the Keating Natatorium both nights. |

Sacred Heart has won 24 state championships in Kentucky. The Mason boys won 183-111. The team totally dominated the meet winning 10 out of 12 events. 2/6-2/7 | GMC Championships @ Mason | 1st place | The Mason boys returned to the podium as 2015 GMC Champions this past Saturday. For the Comets its back-to-back titles and marking their fourth overall title. The boys outpaced Sycamore 529-386. Things got very close after the 100 free, but the boys were able to pull away from there and win by 135 points. Congratulations to Diver Allen Feng. The girls were lead by Sophomore Ashley Volpenhein, Ashley won the 200 Freestyle & the 100 Butterfly. The Mason Girls Swimming and Diving Team tied for 3rd at the Ohio High School State Meet this past weekend in Canton. This is the third year in a row the team has finished 3rd. It was also Mason's highest point total earned at the state championships with 171 points. The highlight of the meet was sophomore Ashley Volpenhein defending her state title in the 50 yard Freestyle and also winning the 100 yard freestyle. Volpenhein now has 4 individual state titles in her young swimming career. 2/7 | GMC Championships @ Lakota East | 1st | Six Straight For Mason Grapplers The Mason Wrestling team continued their complete domination of the GMC on Saturday at Lakota East, winning their 6th consecutive league title. It wasn't even close as the Comets racked an overall score of 231 points to 2nd place Lakota West's 128.5. Mason put 10 out of 14 wrestlers in the finals and came away with 9 overall GMC Champions (modern day GMC record). The also had 12 overall place winners at the tourney. Patrick Kearney was named the GMC Wrestler of the Year. Mason will focus on their upcoming OHSAA Team State Duals match this Satuday and Sunday at historic St. Johns Arena on the campus of The Ohio Sate University. 2/14-15 | Team Duals State Semis/Finals @ OSU | Mason participated in the OHSAA Team State Duals this past Saturday in Columbus, Ohio. The Comets fell to Elyria (ranked 42nd in USA) 36-24 in the opening round. Individual winners for Mason below: Zack Donathan Next up are the OHSAA Sectionals on Feb. 27-28 at Hamilton. 2/27-28 | Sectionals | Wrestlers Win Another Sectional Championship! The Mason Wrestling Team continued their postseason march last Saturday with another Sectional team title. The Comets advance 13 out of 14 weight classes to the District Touney next weekend. Mason defeated the #2 ranked Elder Panthers to win this past weekends event. 3/6-7 | District Championships @ Kettering FairmontTHE Deni | Mason Grapplers Win First District Championship! The Comet wrestling team's streak thru the postseason continued this past weekend by capturing the program's first District Championship at Kettering Fairmont. Mason became only the 2nd public school to win the title in the past 17 years! The Comets racked up 177.5 points, besting second-place Moeller's 145, and Elder in third with 134.5. Mason will send seven wrestlers to state and 1 state alternate, the most of any local Division I school. Elder and Moeller both advanced six grapplers. All 13 wrestlers who qualified for the district tournament won matches and scored points to help propel the team to a dominating performance and team victory. The "Home Grown" group of Mason Wrestlers placed 1st out of 48 Division one wrestling teams to capture the Southwest Ohio District Wrestling Title. Traveling to state for the Comets are: Zack Donathan (106), Patrick Kearney (113), Colin Schuster (120), Nick D'Agostino (152), Cameron Pitts (170), Jordan Collins (182) and Sheldon Sims (220). Seth Warwick (195) will advance to state as alternate. Donathan won the district title at 106 with a decision over Fairfield freshman Zach Shupp. D'Agostino won 8-4 in the finals. Collins won a district title as well – he's now 44-3 this season – giving the Comets three district champions. "It's been a long time coming," Mason coach Craig Murnan said. "We set out March last year after our banquet and our kids committed to what we needed to do and we had this on our radar since the end of the last state tournament. It's a great group of kids, they're all a product of our junior high program." Kearney and Donathan are returning state qualifiers, Murnan added. "We have high expectations, we want to be on the board and we think we can be high on the board," Murnan said referring to the scoreboard at state. "But up there (at state) crazy things can happen. I do know our kids will come to wrestle." The Team heads into the State Individual Tournament with the following post season team accomplishments. The OHSAA State Championships will be held this coming Thursday-Saturday at The Jerome Schottenstein Center on the campus of The Ohio State University. The girls were led by a spectacular series thrown by Kelsey Mitchell. She bowled a first game 268, followed by a terrific 224. That 492 series is tops in the GMC. And her 268 is also the best individual game in the GMC. Another bowler of note is Miriam Markvan who has been bowling very well lately. She has bowled 3 of her last 4 series above a 190 average. The Mason girls will be looking to roll to a GMC co-title on Monday, February 9th at Sycamore. A win and the girls will share the 2015 conference championship with Middletown and Oak Hills. 1/17 | Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals | The Mason Competition Cheer team attended the Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals in Indianapolis this weekend. At the end of day one, Mason found themselves in 3rd place, only 0.93 behind the 1st place team. The team made adjustments and came out on day 2 to deliver a nearly flawless routine, outscoring all other teams in their division. The top score for day two was enough to put them into 2nd place overall, just 0.43 behind 1st place. Next up is the Ohio State Competition on Sunday, Feb. 1st. |
