On another crisp and cool 2018 fall evening the Beavercreek Beavers bested the Comets 3-0 in the Southwest Ohio Regional Final ending the Comets terrific tournament run and their special season.

The Beavers came out strong and fast and controlled much of the first 10 minutes of the contest earning 2 corner kicks and 2 shots.  The tough Comet defense fought hard to keep the Beavers out and Bethany Moser made an excellent save to keep the match knotted at 0-0.  It looked like the Comets were beginning to flip the field at the10 minute mark and earned a corner in the 11th minute.  The Beavers came back down and earned a free kick from 50 yards out in the 12th minute.  The ball was played beautifully into the 18 and headed by a Beaver to the corner of the goal where it was nicely finished for the 1-0 Beaver lead.  Less than 3 minutes later a mysterious foul was called on the Comets 40 yards from the end line, the Beavers flicked the ball in, and with a player in a clear offside position who definitely was involved in the play, scored for the 2-0 lead.  The Comets kept fighting thru the end of the half but just did not appear to have their normal bounce in their step as the half ended 2-0.  The Beavers outshot the Comets 7 to 0 with 5 on goal.  Bethany Moser had 3 beautiful saves to keep the Comets chances alive.  Mason was called for 7 fouls to 1 for the Beavers.  The Comets took 2 corners to Beavercreek’s 4.

The never say die Comets came out and gave it everything they had in the second half and had success keeping the ball in the Beavers end.  Unfortunately for the Comets the Beavers defense only yielded 1 shot all half.  With 2 minutes left in the match, a clear foul was missed just outside the Beavers 18 that lead to a Beaver breakaway and a foul at the other end inside the Comets box.  The penalty goal was scored by the Beavers for the 3-0 win.  The Beavers outshot the Comets 7 to 1 in the second half with 4 on goal to 0.  Bethany Moser recorded another 3 saves that helped to keep the Comets hopes alive for most of the second half.  The Comets were called for 5 fouls to the Beavers 4 and the Beavers took the only corner of the half.

Credit the talented Beavercreek side for keeping the Comets off their possession game and bringing an excellent effort to the Match.
