12/5 at Lebanon won 62-26 1-0 0-0

The boys basketball team opened their season last Friday night with a dominating win over Lebanon by a score of 62-26. Mason allowed the Warriors a total of 5 five points in the 2nd and 4th quarter. The offense produced 50% shooting from the field while holding Lebanon to just 22%.

The Comets got balanced scoring from three players that scored in double figures: Eddie Puisis 12, Blake Benjamin 12, and Cameron Arminio 11.

Mason will host their first home game this Tuesday when they entertain Princeton.

The boys basketball team romped over visiting Princeton last night by a score of 69-46. Mason held the Vikings to just 15 first half points while scoring 36 themselves. Eddie Puisis led Mason with 17 points. Rodney Hutchinson added 10. The Comets shot almost 50% from the field as a team.

The Comets are 2-0 to start the season and will visit Hamilton on Friday, Dec. 12th.

The boys basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 71-57 win over Hamilton last Friday. The Comets built a 10 point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Cameron Arminio touched up Big Blue for 19 points, while Michael Beebe added 16.

Next up Mason will viist Fairfield (3-0) on Tuesday, Dec. 16th.

12/16 at Fairfield won 60-49 4-0 3-0

The Boys Basketball Team got a 60-49 win over undefeated Fairfield on Tuesday and kept their own record unblemished on the season at 4-0. Mason never trailed and got double-digit scoring from Kyle Lamotte (15), Spencer Cline (13) and Matt King (11).

Mason's man-to-man defense set the tone and didn’t allow the hosts to find an offensive rhythm until late in the contest. The Comets, who are tied with Lakota East for first place in the GMC, shot 45.9 percent from the floor and sank 21 of 23 free throws. They led 32-21 at halftime.

Next up Mason will host Sycamore (1-4) on Friday night. Over winter break the team will host Loveland on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd and Trotwood-Madison on Saturday, Dec. 27th. Mason is undefeated at 4-0 and ranked #5 in the latest city polls.

The boys basketball team stayed undefeated over the holiday break notching three wins to send their overall record to 7-0 on the young season.

Mason defeated GMC rival Sycamore on Friday, Dec. 19th by a score of 74-39. Cameron Arminio scored 17 and Kyle Lamotte added 11 in the win. The Comets produced 53% shooting from the field.

12/23 Loveland won 85-46 6-0 4-0 The Comets whalloped Loveland on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd 85-46. Mason led 49-14 at the half. Three players scored in double figures; Kyle Lamotte 15, Matt King 14 and Spencer Cline 10. Michael Beeb dished out 10 assists in the effort. stats
12/27 Trotwood-Madison won 73-64 7-0 4-0

Mason defeated a tough Trotwood-Madison team on Saturday, Dec. 27th by a score of 73-64. Sophomore Eddie Puisis came off the bench to toss in 31 points to lead all scorers. Kyle Lamotted added 11.

Mason (4-0 GMC) will jump back into GMC play on Tuesday, January 6th when they visit Middletown (3-4).

Comet Boys Stay Unbeaten

Mason continued their winning ways with a 72-51 win at Middletown on Tuesday night. It marked the Comets first-ever victory in the Wade Miller gym. The Comets led 36-21 at the half and was never threatened again by the Middies.

The team shot 12 of 26 behind the arc and made 14 of 17 charity tosses. Mason was led by Arminio with 20 and Rodney Hutchinson with 17.

The Comets are ranked #7 in the latest D1 state polls and are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the GMC. They will host Colerain on Friday, January 9th.

Mason boys bball climbed alone to the top of the current GMC standings with a blowout 80--26 win against Colerain on Friday. Mason led 40-7 at the half. Every Comet player on the team scored except one. Eddie Puisis led Mason with 17 followed by Michael Beebe's 10.

Mason's record goes to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the GMC. In the latest polls Mason is ranked 2nd in the city and 6th in the state! The Comets play at Princeton on Friday, January 16th.

Comets Escape at Princeton

Mason extended their unbeaten record to 10-0 on Friday but not without a scare from the Princeton Vikings. Final score on the night: Comets 62 Princeton 60. Mason trailed 52-46 going into the last quarter. Princeton shot an amazing 63% from the field on the evening.

Eddie Puisis came off the bench to spark the Comets with 18 points. Kyle Lamotte and Cameron Arminio added 17 and 14 points respectively.

Mason will host Kings on Tuesday, Jan. 20th.

1/20 Kings won 60-36 11-0 7-0

Mason ran their overall record to 11-0 in a non-conference beat down of Kings on Tuesday. The Comets held the Knights to only 9 first half points and went on to win 60-36.

Mason had three players who scored in double figures; Matt King 13, Cameron Arminio 11 and Eddie Puisis 10. Kyle Lamotte snared 8 rebounds and also dished out 5 assists.

Next up Mason will host Middletown on Friday, Jan. 23rd.

Mason Boys Equal Long Held Program Record

The Mason boys basketball team overwhelmed Middletown 71-30 last Friday night. The Middies managed only 11 first half points and were stymied by the Comet defense the entire evening. Cameron Arminio led all scorers with 20 points. Kyle Lamotte added 11.

The Comets push their undefeated record to 12-0 tying a school record for best season start. The Mason boys 1967-68 team also jumped out to 12-0 start. That team was coached by Lee Carey and finished with an overall record of 17-3.

Next up Mason will host Hamilton on Tuesday, Jan. 27th.

The boys bball team keeps on rolling with their 13th straight win of the season versus Hamilton last night by a final score of 58-42. The Comets 13-0 start sets a new school record for best start of the season eclipsing the record of 12-0 set in the 1967-68 season.

Mason held Big Blue to 34% shooting from the field, while Hamilton shot 4-11 from the charity stripe. Cameron Arminio led Mason with 16 points. Kyle Lamotte added 12 and Matt King snarred 9 rebounds.

Next up Mason will visit Oak Hills this Friday. The Comets are ranked #3 in this weeks city polls and #6 in the AP state rankings.

The Mason boys took care of business last Friday defeating Oak Hills 57-43. The team establishes a new record for consecutive wins (14-0) during a season besting the old mark set in the 1966-67 season (13 straight). Mason is now 14-0 and 10-0 in the league.

Mason led by 9 at the half and increased their lead in the third quarter. Cameron Arminio led all scorers with 17 points.

Next up the Comets will visit Sycamore on Tuesday, February 3rd.

The Mason Boys Basketball machine continued their undefeated march on Tuesday with a 71-46 drubbing of Sycamore. The boys held an 11-point advantage at the half. Four players totaled double figure scoring: Matt King 13, Spencer Cline 12, Cameron Arminio 10 and Eddie Puisis with 10.

The team is ranked #2 in the latest AP Division 1 State polls and #2 in the current city rankings. Next up Mason (15-0,11-0) will host Lakota West on Friday, Feb. 6th.

2/6 Lakota West won 63-37 16-0 12-0

Another win for the Comets over Lakota West last Friday by a score of 63-37. Mason stays undefeated on the season with a record of 16-0 and 12-0 in the GMC. The boys led by only 6 at the half, but turned up the intensity in the final two quarters and won going away.

Cameron Arminio led Mason with 14 points. Matt King added 10 and dished 5 assists.

Next up Mason will take their unblemish record on the reoad to Colerain this Tuesday, Feb. 10th. The Comets have three regular season games remaining on their schedule after Colerain; Fairfiield and Oak Hills at home and Lakota East away (Feb. 20th).

COMETS SOAR TO 17-0!

Mason demolished Colerain on Tuesday, 67-25 to keep their record unblemished on the season at 17-0. The Comets led 35-13 at the half and held the Cardinals to just 12 2nd half points. Balanced scoring saw four players reach double figures; Cameron Arminio 15, Eddie Puisis 12, Spencer Cline 11, and Michael Beeb 10. King dished out 5 assists to his teammates. The Comets shot a searing 59% from the field.

A big GMC home game faces the Comets this Friday against Fairfield. Mason will host Oak Hills the next Tuesday and conclude the regular season at Lakota East on Feb. 20th.

COMETS STREAK TO 19-0!

The Mason boys basketball machine continued to "grind out" win after win. On Friday, February 13th, the Comets knocked off Fairfiield for the 2nd time this season by a final score of 65-35. The Mason defense held the Indians to 31% shooting from the field. Kyle Lamotte led all scorers with 17 points. Matt King dished 5 assists.

2/17 Oak Hills won 67-41 19-0 15-0

Mason Earns 19th In A Row!

Mason racked up their 19th win of the season against NO losses last night setting up a season finale at Lakota East this Friday night with a lot on the line. The Comets defeated Oak Hills on Tuesday by a score of 67-41. The win was just another in a string of "workmanship style" victories. Mason has seen only two games (Trotwoood and Princeton) in the 2014-15 season that would be considered "close calls". The team's winning margin thru 19 opponents has averaged almost 25 points per games.

Mason won in typical fashion against the Highlanders with three players scoring in double figures: Kyle Lamotte 18, Cameron Arminio 14 and Blake Benjamin 12. The Comets shot 53% from the field.

Mason will face the Thunderhawks (19-2 and 14-1) for the first time this season this Friday. An defeated regular season (first in modern day program records) and securing the teams first GMC Championship since entering the league in 2007 will be at stake. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as a capacity crowd is expected in the Lakota East gymnasium.

***PLEASE NOTE...Freshman will tipoff at 4:00 PM and JV at 5:30 PM to accommodate East's senior night recognitions that evening.

Mason has earned the #1 seed in the upcoming OHSAA Division 1 Sectional Tournament. The Comets will play the winner of the Anderson/Harrison contest at Hamilton, 6:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4th.

Boys Finish Regular Season as GMC Co-Champs!

The Boys Basketball team fell to the Thunderhaswks in overtime last Friday in front of packed house at East. Mason fought their way back from a 13-point deficit during regulation. Mason junior guard Kyle Lamotte sent the game to overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer and sophomore Matt Kings gave the Comets their first lead with a 12-footer in overtime. East quickly reversed the score with a three-point tray of their own, then held on the rest of the way to gain a share of the 2015 GMC Title with the Comets. This is Mason's first league championship and East's third.

Senior Cameron Arminio scored 19 points, 15 on 3-pointers, and Lamotte finished with 15 to lead Mason (19-1, 15-1). The Comets finish their regular season schedule as the Enquirer's Division 1 City Champion and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming OHSAA Division 1 Sectional Tournament.

Mason will play the winner of the Anderson/Harrison contest at Hamilton, 6:00 PM, Wednesday, March 4th.

It will be mentor vs student on Wednesday, March 4th when Mason (#1 seed) plays Anderson (#21 seed) at Hamilton in the 2nd round of the Sectional tourney.  Coach Richards former assisstant coach, Chris Delotell, is in his first year as Anderson's head coach.

The Redskins (11-12) defeated Harrison 54-46 last Saturday to advance. Tip off is slated for 6:00 PM.

COMETS ADVANCE IN POST SEASON!

MASON VS. LASALLE TONIGHT!

The Mason boy's basketball team took another step in the OHSAA Sectional Tourney last night with a 64-44 win, improving their overall mark to a program record of 20-1. The game was a matchup with former varsity assistant Chris Delotell's Anderson Redskins.

Mason jumped out to a first quarter 18-7 lead and went into halftime with a comfortable 36-24 advantage. The Comets forced Anderson into 19 turnovers. Senior Rodney Hutchison led Mason with 19 points while Micheal Beebe dished out 6 assists.

The win sets up a classic GMC-GCL rematch with Lasalle HS 19-5) TONIGHT (March 6) at the Xaviers' Cintas Center. The Lancers defeated a pesky Hamilton team 65-52, also last night, to punch their ticket to tonights Sectional Championship. Tipoff is slated for 6:00 pm.

The two teams met last season, also in the sectional final, with Lasalle coming away with a 65-48 victory. The winner advances to the District Championship next Saturday, March 14th at UD Arena.

SECTIONAL FINAL

The boy's basketball team', magical season, came to a disappointing conclusion on Friday night in the Sectional Final. Mason fell to LaSalle, 43-41 to finsih end their 2014-15 campaign at 20-2.

Mason built a solid lead early in the contest and led 14-4 after the first quarter of play. The Lancers began to rally toward the end of the first half, but the Comets still led by 8 going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Mason saw their lead evaporate with some hot outside shooting by their opponent. The Comets scored just 15 points in the second half on 38.5 percent shooting. Mason hadn't been held under 57 points in a game all season.

It was a see-saw affair until the final few minutes. LaSalle got a rebound under the Mason basket and drilled a three-pointer with 1:46 left giving them the lead for good the rest of the way.

This year's team provided many thrills and highlights including their first-ever GMC title (shared with East). Their overall record ranks them as one of Mason's best all-time boys teams.

Congratulations to our players and coaches on an outstanding season!

Girsl Win First One!

The Mason Girsl basketball team opened their season on Wednesday with a GMC win at Colerain by a score of 61-32. The Comet defense suffocated the Cardinal ladies offense in the 2nd half allowing only 13 points.

Jailyn Mason poured in 22 points to lead all scorers, while also adding 6 steals. Mariah Cambell tossed in a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Next up Mason will host Princeton on Saturday, Dec. 6th with a 2:00 PM tipoff.

The Mason girls bball team raced to their 2nd win of the young season with a 53-40 victory over Princeton (defending state champs) on Saturday. The Comets led by 13 at the half and were able to maintain that margin in the 2nd half.

Junior Jailyn Mason led all scorers with 21 points and notched a double-double collecting 12 rebounds. Sophomore Samari Mowbray added 12 points and 7 carooms.

Next up Mason will visit Lakota East on Wednesday, Dec. 10th.

The Lady Comets whalloped Lakota East on Wednesday by a score of 56-31. Lauren Van Kleunen made her 2014 debut in stellar fashion with her first double-double of the season (18 points, 10 rebounds). Samari Mowbray added 11 points.

The 3-0 Comets will host Sycamore on Saturday.

Streak Continues For Girls Hoops

The Lady Comet Baskeball team continued their winning ways on Wednesday with a 57-31 win at Fairfield. The team is 5-0 on the season with all the wins coming against GMC opponents. Mason is ranked #3 in the latest city wide polls.

The team got balanced scoring against the Indians: Lauren Van Kleunen 12, Makenzie Dixon 11 and Jailyn Mason 11 points. Mason led 33-14 at the half.

Next up the Comets will visit Hamilton on Saturday. Over the holiday break they will have away contests at Talawanda on Monday, Dec. 22nd and Centerville on Tuesday, Dec. 30th.

The Mason Girls Bball team kept their record unblemished at 8-0 with three quality away wins over the Winter Break.

The Lady Comets bounced Hamilton 59-24 on Saturday, Dec. 20th. They were led by Samori Mowbray's 18 and Lauren Van Kleunen's 13 points.

The Lady Comets got another win at Centerville on Tuesday, Dec. 30th by a score of 49-23. A trifold of players contributed to the win; Jailyn Mason 13, Samari Mowbray 12 and Mariah Campbell 10.

Mason will return home on Saturday, Jan. 3rd against always good Walnut Hills and then return to GMC play at Oak Hills on Wednesday, Jan. 7th.

Mason Girls Undefeated

The Lady Comet Basketball team enter the new year with a perfect 9-0 record after defeating Walnut Hills last Saturday 50-34. Lauren Van Kleunen posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds and added 4 steals. Samari Mowbray helped with her 11 points. Jailyn Mason dished 6 assists.

Mason limited Oak Hills to only 20% shooting from the field in their 56-19 win on Wednesday night. The Highlanders got blanked in the third quarter by the Comets. Mason was led by 16 points from Samari Mowbray and 13 from Lauren Van Kleunen.

The Comets are 10-0 overall and 7-0 in the GMC. The Lady Comets are ranked #1 in the latest AP OHSAA D1girls state basketball polls.

Next up Mason will host Middletown on Saturday, Jan. 10th.

The state's No. 1 ranked Lady Comets notched another win on Saturday against Middletown, by a score of 62-40.

Three players scored in double figures; Lauren Van Kleunen 15, Mariah Campbell and Jailyn Mason 12. Mason added 6 assists.

Next up Mason (11-0, 8-0)) will host Kettering Alter on Wednesday, Jan. 14th. The Lady Comets are the city and states #1 ranked team.

1/14 Alter lost 52-43 11-1 8-0

Mason suffered their first loss of the season on Thusday night by a score of 52-43 to a very good Kettering Alter team before a capacity crowd in the Mason gym. It was showdown of the states top D1 and D2 girls teams who were both undefeated entering the contest. The talent on the court Wednesday night — drew college scouts from Indiana, Xavier, and Dayton. Mason and Kettering have combined for five state finals appearances including two titles.

The Comets trailed 19-9 early in the second quarter but finished the half on a 7-3 run to trim Alter's lead to 26-21. It was the first time this season that Mason trailed at the half.

Just as she did toward the end of the first half, Lauren Van Kleunen provided a spark for the Comets. Her 3-point play made it a two-point game early in the third quarter. But Alter (13-0) had an answer for every Mason spurt.

Junior forward Lauren Van Kleunen scored 20 points and junior guard Jailyn Mason added 10 for the Comets (11-1), who are ranked No. 1 in The Enquirer Division I coaches' poll.

Next up the Lady Comets play Newark and Solon at the Classic in the Country showcase in Berlin, Ohio, this Saturday and Sunday. Tip times are 6:20 and 6:40, respectively.

The Lady Comets dropped two games at the Classic in the Country Showcase this past weekend.

Mason lost to Newark 36-33 on Saturday. Neither team shot paticularly well (31%) with a combined 26 turnovers between the two schools. No one from Mason scored in double figures. Lauren Van Kleunen grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss.

1/18 at Solon lost 57-53 11-3 8-0

The Lady Comets lost a tough 57-53 contest to Solon on Sunday. Mason got outrebounded 32-23. Van Klueunen led all scorers with 17. Anna Brinkman and Samari Mowbray added 13 and 12 points respectively.

The Comets won't have much time to lick their wounds as they face co-league leader Lakota West on Thursday for what could be the GMC title. This contest has been moved to the Mason Middle School arena. Varsity tip at 7:30 PM.

1/22 Lakota West lost 55-41 11-4 8-1

The Mason girls sufferred their first GMC loss at the hands of Lakota West on Thursday night by a score of 55-41. West shot 50 percent from the field in the first half while Mason shot 25.9 percent from the field. Mason held the rebounding advantage 17-16 in the first half.

Mason cut the lead to nine points a couple of times in the third quarter but the Firebirds led 44-33 by the start of the fourth and extended its lead to 50-33 with 5:27 left.

Mason junior forward Lauren Van Kleunen had a game-high 16 points to go along with nine rebounds. Sophomore forward Samari Mowbray added 12 points.

The Lady Comets will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday when they visit Sycamore.

Mason girls went on a 19-3 third quarter run to break away and defeat Sycamore on Saturday by a score of 48-32. The two teams were locked in a 21-21 tie at the half. The win for the Lady Comets breaks a four-game losing streak and marches their overall record to 12-4 with a 9-1 mark in the GMC.

Mason got 21 points from junior Lauren Van Kleunen and 10 from Mariah Campbell. Next up the Comets visit Princeton on Wednesday, Jan. 28th.

The Mason girls bball team defeated Princeton on Wednesday by a score of 64-37. The Lady Comets were red hot from the field shooting 63% on the night. Jailyn Mason had a game high 22 points. Samari Mowbray and Lauren Van Kleunen added 13 and 11.

The girls won another contest on Saturday against Fairfield by a score of 54-35. Three players hit double figures: Lauren Van Kleunen 15 (12 rebounds), Jailyn Mason 14, and Samari Mowbray 13.

Mason girls swept Hamilton on Wednesday by a score of 77-32. The Lady Comets led 44-9 after two quarters. Lauren Van Klenuen poured in 23 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Jailyn Mason added 9 and dished 5 assists.

Mason will host Oak Hills on Wednesday and conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday at home against Colerain. The team earned the #3 seed in the upcoming post season tourney. Mason will play the winner of Kings/Milford on Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 7:30 PM tenatively scheduled at Kings.

2/11 Oak Hills won 43-19 17-4 14-1 The Lady Comets defeated Oak Hills last Thursday, Feb. 11th by a score of 43-19. Lauren Van Kleunen led all scorers with 20 pionts while grabbing 9 rebounds. stats
2/14 Colerain won 47-13 18-4 15-1

Mason girls closed out the 2014-15 regular season with a dominating 47-13 win against Colerain on senior night. The Cardinals were held to only 4-30 field goals (13%). Samari Mowbray led Mason with 14 points. Lauren Van Kleunen tossed in 11.

The Lady Comets finish with a record of 18-4 overall and 15-1 in the GMC (2nd place) and now turn their attention to post season play.

The team earned the #3 seed in the upcoming post season tourney. Mason will play Milford on Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 7:30 PM at Kings. The Eagles defeated Kings on Monday night 45-36 to advance to face the Comets.

Girls Basketball pre-sale tickets for the game Wednesday, February 25 will be on sale in the Athletic Office Monday through Wednesday 8:00AM to 2:00PM.

Mason Girls Advance

The Lady Comets defeated Milford 68-42 in their tourney opener on Wednesday. The fourth quarter saw Mason overwhelm the Eagles 21-5 to pull away for the win, sending them to the next round.

Samari Mowbray had a game high 26 points, while Lauren Van Kleunen scored 17. Jailyn Mason dished 9 assists.

Next up Mason will face Ursuline Academy at Kings on Saturday, Feb. 28th at 3:00 PM for the Sectional Final. The winner advances to the District Championship on Saturday, March 7th at Harrison HS.

SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS!

The Lady Comets defeated Ursuline Academy on Saturday at Kings to claim a Sectional Title and move on in the postseason. Mason won comfortably by a final score of 58-31 to send their overall record to 20-4. The Comets led 25-13 at the half.

Four players were in double figures; Jailyn Mason 15, Samari Mowbray, Lauren Van Kleunen and Anna Brinkmann all had 11 points. Van Kleunen notched a double-double with 13 rebounds.

Next up Mason (#3 seed) will face Kettering Fairmont (18-7, #4 seed) in the District Championship contest at Harrison on Saturday, March 7th with tipoff at 11:00 AM. The winner will advace to the Regional Sem-Finals.

The Mason girl's basketball season came to an end in the District Final on Saturday. Kettering Fairmont earned a mild 55-47 upset win over the Lady Comets at Harrison to advance in the postseason.

Mason trailed 25-18 at the half and started a come-back in the third quarter that fell short. The team got outstanding individual contributions from juniors Lauren Van Kleunen (19 points) and Jailyn Mason (16 points). Van Kleunen notched another double-double with 11 rebounds.

The Lady Comets will return next season with a strong group of seniors to lead the way. Congrats to the players and coaches on another exciting sesason of basketball.

Mason Gymnasts Crowned Champions at Forest Hills Flip Fest


The Mason Gymnastic Team came out on top of 9 teams at the Flip Fest Invitational held at Anderson High School, Saturday, December 20, 2014. Compiling a team score of 135.825, the Comets finished 5.15 points ahead of second place finisher Centerville who scored 130.675, while Miamisburg finished third with a 127.
Senior Gabby Sora was all around champion with a score of 35.325. She finished 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars, 2nd on beam, and 4th on floor. Senior Crystal Kratzer finished 4th all around with a 34.075 while finishing 2nd on bars, 7th on beam, and 5th on floor. Senior Nina Tavernier was awarded 5th on vault. Freshman Jessie Clark finished 8th on beam and 9th on bars. Freshman Donna Soltis finished 5th on bars and 6th on floor. Also contributing to the team win was sophomore Kate Moeller.  Rounding out the team members at the meet were senior Mandie Shumate, sophomore Jasmine Bacchus, and freshman Lauren Brucher. The Comets are led by 1st year Head Coach Denise DeLotell and Assistant Coach Lauren Brune.
The Comets next competition is Saturday, January 10, at Cincinnati Country Day.

1/10 Indian Cup @ CCD 1st place  

Mason Gymnasts Tops at Indian Cup


The Mason High School Gymnastic Team again came out on top at the recent Indian Cup held at Cincinnati Country Day on Saturday, Jan. 10th. .  The team score of 134.95 was enough to hold off Centerville’s 133.9.

Senior Gabby Sora earned 3rd on vault with a score of 8.9 , 4th on bars with a score of 8.55, and 4th all around with a 34.5 out of a possible 40.  Senior Crystal Kratzer won bars with a score of 8.7.  Freshman Donna Soltis took 5th on bars with an 8.5. 


Also competing for the Comets and contributing to the team score were Jasmine Bacchus, Jenn Kyselica, Jessie Clark, and Nina Tavernier.

Next up Mason participates in the Oak Hills Invitational on Wednesday, January 14th.

1/14 Oak Hills Invite @ Westside Academy 1st place  

Comet Gymnast Win “Flipping in the Hills”


Even though the Mason Gymnastic Team has several injured athletes, they were still able to capture another win at the Oak Hills Invitational on Wednesday. All GMC schools with gymnastics were in attendance and Mason came out on top with a score of 133.95. 


Senior Crystal Kratzer took home the all around medal with a score of 34.7. She also won Bars with a 9.1 , took 3rd on floor, and 4th on beam. Freshman Donna Soltis took first on floor with a 9.2 (high score of the meet) , first on beam, 4th on vault, and 3rd all around.  Jessie Clark, freshman, earned 3rd on vault and 6th on bars, beam and floor. She also came in 4th in the all around division. Senior Gabby Sora competed only on bars and took 6th.

Competing for the first time was Mandie Shumate, a new senior to the Mason gymnastic team. Also competing and also new to the team was sophomore, Jasmine Bacchus.

1/19 Northmont Invite 1st place  

Mason Gymnasts Win Their Fourth Straight Contest


Mason gymnasts took down 9  other schools to come out on top at the Northmont Invitational held Monday, January 19, 2015.  There were 10 full teams in attendance and 24 schools represented. Mason won with a 137, the highest team score this season.  This was 5 points above the second and third place teams: Troy and Centerville. 


Crystal Kratzer took the all around title as well as 1st on bars (9.15), 2nd on beam , and 10th on vault. Senior Gabby Sora dominated beam with a 9.25 as well as finishing 4th in all around.  Nina Tavernier finished 5th on vault with an 8.85.


Freshman Donna Soltis took 4th on beam, 7th on bars, 9th on floor, and 8th all around. Freshman Jessie Clark was awarded 8th on bars and 10th all around. Others competing for the Comets at the Invitational were sophomore Kate Moeller and Jenn Kyselica.  Rounding out the Comets were Mandie Shumate and Jasmine Bacchus. 


The Comets travel to Centerville for the Elk Invitational on Saturday, January 24.

Mason Gymnasts Remain Undefeated

The Lady Comets continued their 2014-15 winning streak at the Elk Invitational held at Centerville High School, Saturday, January 24, 2015.  With 11 schools in attendance, Mason came out on top with a 137.45 over Centerville who scored a 134. Finishing third was Troy with a 133.6.  The Lady Comets have competed and finished first in all five Invitationals this season – Forest Hills Flip Fest, Indian Cup, Flipping in the Hills, Northmont Invitational, and the Elk Invitational.

Mason had 4 gymnasts in the all-around top 8 with Crystal Kratzer finishing 4th, Gabby Sora 5th, Jessie Clark 6th, and Donna Soltis 8th.  Senior Gabby Sora earned a season high of 9.05 on vault (2nd) while freshman Jessie Clark came in 8th with an 8.3.  Senior Crystal Kratzer also cracked the 9.0 mark with a 9.15 on bars, also a season high, which earned her first place. Gabby Sora finished 5th and freshman Donna Soltis 7th. On beam, Soltis finished 2nd with an 8.9, her highest season score, while Clark finished 5th, also with a high season score of 8.75.

Senior Night will be held Saturday, February 7, at Gymnation where the Comets hold practices. All are welcome to attend. The program begins at 6:00 pm.


The Comets then travel to the Hamilton Invitational on Sunday, February 8.

2/8 Hamilton Invite 1st place  

Mason Gymnasts Hit a Two Year Scoring High


The Lady Comet Gymnasts continue their undefeated winning streak with the high team score of 140.1 which was almost 11 points ahead of 2nd place team at the Hamilton Invitational on Sunday, Beavercreek’s 129.4. Turpin finished 3rd. Also competing were Lakota East, Anderson, Oak Hills, CCD, Hamilton, and Badin High Schools.


Seniors Gabby Sora and Crystal Kratzer came out on top with 1st and 2nd place all-around respectively, both with their season high scores. Freshman Donna Soltis finished 6th in the all around category.  Gabby scored her vault high of 9.3 out of a possible 9.7 which awarded her vault champion. She was also beam champion with a 9.0. Gabby enjoyed a 9.0 day with her 9.075 on floor and finishing 3rd.
Crystal was the bar champion with a 9.075, 3rd on beam with an 8.85, and 4th on vault while competing a new vault and scoring 8.85. Senior Nina Tavernier finished 3rd on vault with an 8.925.


Other medal winners were sophomore Kate Moeller finishing 4th on beam, Donna Soltis finishing 8th on bars and 5th on beam, and freshman Jessie Clark 8th on floor.
 Freshman Jenn Kyselica also competed for the Comets at the Invitational.

The Comets are now ready for the City Championships on Saturday, Feb. 21, then on to Southwest Districts held at Lakota East on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Comets goal is to qualify to the State Meet in Columbus on Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th. The team will need to finish 1st or 2nd at the District Competiton to qualify.  Go Lady Comets!

2/21 City Championships @ CCD 1st Place!  

Mason Girls Gymnastics City Champions


The Lady Comets are once again Cincinnati City Champions for now the 7th consecutive year.  The Comets scored a 137.95 which was 7.8 points ahead of second place Turpin.  Seniors Gabby Sora and Crystal Kratzer finished 2nd and 3rd in the all around division respectively; followed closely by 7th place Donna Soltis and 9th place Jenn Kyselica.


Gabby broke the Mason High School all time high vault score with a 9.35 which awarded her 1st place at the meet. Crystal Kratzer and senior Nina Tavernier came in 2nd and 3rd on  vault behind Gabby. 


Crystal scored her all time high on bars with a 9.25 which awarded her 1st place. Freshman Jenn Kyselica finished 4th with an 8.4, freshman Donna Soltis 5th with an 8.35, and Gabby Sora 6th with an 8.25.


Sophomore Kate Moeller came in 3rd on beam with a score of 8.75 followed by 6th place Gabby (8.525), 7th place Donna (8.475) and 9th place Crystal (8.425).  Gabby’s 9.025 floor score awarded her 3rd place while Donna Soltis came in 9th with an 8.7. Also competing  were senior Mandie Shumate and sophomore Jasmine Bacchus.


The Comets will compete at the Ohio Southwest District Gymnastic Meet held this Saturday at Lakota East. Competition begins at 1:45.  The top two teams will then compete at the State Meet which will be held the following Friday, March 6.  The top 6 individuals in each event will compete at State on Saturday, March 7.

2/28 OHSAA District Meet @ Lakota East 1st place  

Mason Gymnasts State Bound


The Lady Comet Gymnasts finished at the top of the Southwest District at Saturday’s District Championship. Again, the Comets won by a large margin, 5.2 points over second place Centerville. Both teams will represent the Southwest District at the OHSAA State Meet held this Friday and Saturday at Hilliard Bradley High School. This will be Mason’s 6th straight appearance at the State Meet.


Seniors Crystal Kratzer and Gabby Sora finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the all around category.  Crystal’s 36.2   broke the school’s all around record.  Crystal also finished 1st on bars with a season high of 9.35, 3rd on beam (8.95), 5th on floor (9.0),and 9th on vault (8.9). Gabby Sora grabbed the vault title with her 9.225. She also finished 1st on beam with a 9.15 and 2nd on floor with a 9.15. Freshman Donna Soltis finished 2nd on beam with a 9.1 and 7th on bars with an 8.225, while sophomore Kate Moeller took 6th on beam with an 8.75. Senior Nina Tavernier finished 10th on vault with an 8.9. She also scored a season high on floor of 8.75.  Freshman Jenn Kyselica in her only event finished 10th on bars (8.15).  The top 6 in each event will compete in the individual finals on Saturday. Mason is proud to have 4 top finishers: Gabby Sora, Crystal Kratzer, Kate Moeller, and Donna Soltis.  


The Mason girls’ 35.95 combined beam score also broke the school’s record which was set in the 2010-11 City Championships.


Other competitors for the undefeated Mason Gymnastic team are Mandie Shumate, Jasmine Bacchus, Jessie Clark, and Lauren Brucher.  The Comets head to Columbus on Friday for the State Meet.  Good Luck Girls!

Mason Gymnasts Finish 7th at State

Crystal Kratzer Earns State Title!!

It was a great weekend for the Mason Gymnastic team at the State Championships in Columbus. The Lady Comets were making their 6th consecutive appearance at state. Overall as a team, Mason finished 7th behind some strong competition. The highlight of the day came with Crystal Kratzer being crowned State Champion with a 9.25 on thebars. Crystal made history by being Mason’s first and only State Champion in Gymnastics.


Once again, the Comets rocked beam and put up the third highest team score of the day. Seniors Gabby Sora and Kratzer  again led the Comets with their consistent high scoring and both were named to the All State Team. Crystal hit a 9.3 bar routine while Gabby earned a 9.125 on beam. Other high scores for the team competition were Gabby with a 9.0 on floor, Crystal with a 9.0 on beam, and Donna Soltis with an 8.775 on the beam.  Other competitors contributing points for the Comets were Nina Tavernier, Mandie Shumate, Kate Moeller, Jasmine Bacchus,and Jenn Kyselica. Congratulations to the girls for a great state appearance.


Only the top 6 qualifiers from each of the 5 Ohio District Competitions competed in Saturday’s Individual Competition and Mason was honored to qualify 4 gymnasts to this prestigious event. Gabby Sora finished 10th on vault with her 9.2 yuchenko pike vault. While Kratzer and Sora qualified in 4 of the 5 events, sophomore Kate Moeller and freshman Donna Soltis qualified and competed on beam in Saturday’s Individual Event Tournament.


Congratulations to the Mason Lady Gymnasts on an undefeated regular season and a 7th place finish at the OHSAA State Gymnastic Finals. Also, to Crystal Kratzer, Mason’s first Gymnastics State Champion.

12/13 Quad meet Mason203, Lebanon 108, Loveland 78, Princeton 65.  

Mason hosted Loveland, Princeton, & Lebanon in a quad meet this past Saturday. The boys were overall winners with 203 points. Individual winners on the boys side were Jackson Thomas 50 Freestyle, Alex Mechler 100 Butterfly, Donald Bleasdale 500 Freestyle, & Daniel Eichler 100 Breaststroke.

The boys compete next Friday night against Akron Firestone & then on Saturday they will be in the Canton Invitational.

12/20 at Akron Firestone     The Mason swimm teams totally dominated the Akron Firestone on Dec. 20th winning every event and in some events earning the top three places. The boys score was 123-52.
12/21 at Canton Invite    

On Saturday, the teams competed in the Christmas Inv. at the CT Branin Natatorium. No team scores were kept, but Mason teams had many great swims during the day and qualified a lot of swimmers into finals. You can find the meet results on swimmeet.com.

Mason will host Upper Arlington on Saturday, January 10th at 2:30 PM.

The boys swim team fell to always tough Upper Arlington on Saturday by a score of 99-84. The guys swam well at the event against some very good athletes.

The boys team was lead by Junior Joel Thatcher who won 2 individual races in the 200 IM & 100 Freestyle. Senior Justin Hove won the 100 Butterfly, while Allen Feng won diving.

Next up for the Comets is the Coaches Southwest Classic on January 17-18th. This is the largest high school swim meet in the nation with preliminary sets being held at 9 locations throughout the southwest district, with the top 16 qualifiers competing at the Keating Natatorium both nights.

1/17-18 Southwest Coaches Classic 5th place  

The Mason Boys Swim/Dive Team finished 5th at the Coaches Classic last weekend.

Highlights: The boys set 3 school records. Junior Joel Thatcher set a team record in the 200 Backstroke and the 1650 Freestyle, while the 400 Medley Relay broke a record that was set back in 2007. They are Joel Thatcher, Terry Tao, Justin Hove, & Peter He.

The divers had a very successful weekend too. Allen Feng finished 8th overall.

1/24 Sacred Heart/Trinity (KY) @ Mason     The boys and girls swimming/diving teams competed against Sacred Heart Academy and Trinity (Louisville Kentucky) at Mason last Saturday. Sacred Heart has won 24 state championships in Kentucky.

The Mason boys won 183-111. The team totally dominated the meet winning 10 out of 12 events. Event winners were - Alex Mechler - 200 freestyle, Joel Thatcher - 200 IM, Mpoki Mwalupindi - 50 freestyle, Ethan Devyak - 100 freestyle, Peter He - 500 freestyle, Preston Bailey - 100 Breaststroke, & Allen Feng - diving, plus winning all 3 relays.

Mason concludes their regular season next weekend. Friday, Jan. 30th vs. Lakota East & West @ 6 pm is our senior night. On Saturday, January 31st they will host . LaSalle & McAuley.

Next up Mason will host the GMC Championships this coming Friday and Saturday.

2/6-2/7 GMC Championships @ Mason 1st place  

The Mason boys returned to the podium as 2015 GMC Champions this past Saturday. For the Comets its back-to-back titles and marking their fourth overall title. The boys outpaced Sycamore 529-386. Things got very close after the 100 free, but the boys were able to pull away from there and win by 135 points. Congratulations to Diver Allen Feng. Allen was named diver of the meet for his 1st place finish.

The OHSAA District Championships are scheduled for Feb. 18-Feb. 21 at Miami University. The event will automatically qualify two (2) in each swimming event to the State Meet, with sixteen (16) at large qualifiers that will be selected on the basis of times recorded in the District Meet. 12/13 Quad meet    

Mason hosted Loveland, Princeton, & Lebanon in a quad meet this past Saturday. The girls came out on top with 168 points.
Sophomore Camille Nguyen led the girls with 2 individual wins in the 200 IM & 500 Free. Senior Cass Lawson won diving.

The girls compete next Friday night against Akron Firestone & then on Saturday they will be in the Canton Invitational.

12/20 at Akron Firestone     The Comet swim teams totally dominated Akron Firestone on December 20th over break winning every event and in some events placing in the top three spots. The girls score was 133-46.
12/21 at Canton Invite    

On Saturday, the teams competed in the Christmas Inv. at the CT Branin Natatorium. No team scores were kept, but Mason teams had many great swims during the day and qualified a lot of swimmers into finals. Ashley Volpenhein was voted outstanding performer of the meet on the girl’s side. You can find the meet results on swimmeet.com.

The Lady Comet Swimmers and Divers competed against one of the top programs in the state on Saturday and lost 104-82. The girls were lead by Sophomore Ashley Volpenhein, Ashley won the 200 Freestyle & the 100 Butterfly. Senior Julia Volpenhein, Ashley's older sister won the 100 Backstroke, while Sophomore Josephine Waller won the 100 Breaststroke.

Next up for the Comets is the Coaches Southwest Classic on January 17-18th. This is the largest high school swim meet in the nation with preliminary sets being held at 9 locations throughout the southwest district, with the top 16 qualifiers competing at the Keating Natatorium both nights.

1/17-18 Southwest Coaches Classic 2nd place  

Mason Girls Swimming finished 2nd for the second straight year at the Southwest Coaches Classic last weekend. St. Ursula was the overall winner.

Highlights: Sophomore, Ashley Volpenhein, won the 50 freestyle (meet record) (school record) & the 100 Butterfly. Ashley was on the 200 Freestyle Relay along with Jordan Decker, Abbey Esler, & Tiffany Yu that won & set the meet record. The divers had a very successful weekend too. Senior Aubrey Rose finished 6th overall.

 

1/24 Sacred Heart/Trinity (KY) @ Mason     The boys and girls swimming/diving teams competed against Sacred Heart Academy and Trinity (Louisville Kentucky) at Mason last Saturday. Sacred Heart has won 24 state championships in Kentucky.

The Mason girls won 181-121. The Lady Comets showed great depth defeating Sacred Heart. Winning only 3 individual events, the 50 free - Jordan Decker, 100 free - Gabby Marinelli, & 100 breaststroke - Josephine Waller. Mason also won the 200 & 400 Freestyle Relays.

Mason concludes their regular season next weekend. Friday, Jan. 30th vs. Lakota East & West @ 6 pm is our senior night. On Saturday, January 31st they will host . LaSalle & McAuley.

The Girls Swimming and Diving Team clinched their 8th consecutive GMC title this past weekend. Mason has won the league every year since entering the conference in 2007-08. The team outscored their nearest competitor (Sycamore), 628-421.

Congratulations to sophomore swimmer Ashley Volpenhein for being named Swimmer of the Meet. Ashley won the 50 (league record) & 100 Freestyle. Ashley won this award last year too. In addition the following swimmers won league titles:

2/11-2/14 Sectional Swimming at Mason 1st  

The Mason Girls Swimming team earned a Sectional Team Championship this past Saturday dominating the field of 9 teams and winning with a score of 623, almost 400 points better than their nearest competitor. Look for more details on indvidual results soon. For a full recap of the event click here.

The OHSAA District Championships are scheduled for Feb. 18-Feb. 21 at Miami University. The event will automatically qualify two (2) in each swimming event to the State Meet, with sixteen (16) at large qualifiers that will be selected on the basis of times recorded in the District Meet. Volepenhein Wins Two State Titles!

The Mason Girls Swimming and Diving Team tied for 3rd at the Ohio High School State Meet this past weekend in Canton. This is the third year in a row the team has finished 3rd. It was also Mason's highest point total earned at the state championships with 171 points.

The highlight of the meet was sophomore Ashley Volpenhein defending her state title in the 50 yard Freestyle and also winning the 100 yard freestyle. Volpenhein now has 4 individual state titles in her young swimming career.

Mason will be looking for a 6th straight conference titile at the GMC Championships to be held at Lakota East on Saturday, February 7th.

2/7 GMC Championships @ Lakota East 1st  

Six Straight For Mason Grapplers

The Mason Wrestling team continued their complete domination of the GMC on Saturday at Lakota East, winning their 6th consecutive league title. It wasn't even close as the Comets racked an overall score of 231 points to 2nd place Lakota West's 128.5. Mason put 10 out of 14 wrestlers in the finals and came away with 9 overall GMC Champions (modern day GMC record). The also had 12 overall place winners at the tourney. Patrick Kearney was named the GMC Wrestler of the Year.

Mason will focus on their upcoming OHSAA Team State Duals match this Satuday and Sunday at historic St. Johns Arena on the campus of The Ohio Sate University. Eight of the top teams in the State of Ohio will be vying for a State Championship team title.

The OHSAA Sectional tourney is scheduled for February 27-28 at Lebanon HS.

3/6-7 District Championships @ Kettering FairmontTHE Deni    

Mason Grapplers Win First District Championship!

The Comet wrestling team's streak thru the postseason continued this past weekend by capturing the program's first District Championship at Kettering Fairmont. Mason became only the 2nd public school to win the title in the past 17 years!  The Comets racked up 177.5 points, besting second-place Moeller's 145, and Elder in third with 134.5.

Mason will send seven wrestlers to state and 1 state alternate, the most of any local Division I school. Elder and Moeller both advanced six grapplers. All 13 wrestlers who qualified for the district tournament won matches and scored points to help propel the team to a dominating performance and team victory. The "Home Grown" group of Mason Wrestlers placed 1st out of 48 Division one wrestling teams to capture the Southwest Ohio District Wrestling Title.

Traveling to state for the Comets are: Zack Donathan (106), Patrick Kearney (113), Colin Schuster (120), Nick D'Agostino (152), Cameron Pitts (170), Jordan Collins (182) and Sheldon Sims (220). Seth Warwick (195) will advance to state as alternate.

Donathan won the district title at 106 with a decision over Fairfield freshman Zach Shupp. D'Agostino won 8-4 in the finals. Collins won a district title as well – he's now 44-3 this season – giving the Comets three district champions.

"It's been a long time coming," Mason coach Craig Murnan said. "We set out March last year after our banquet and our kids committed to what we needed to do and we had this on our radar since the end of the last state tournament. It's a great group of kids, they're all a product of our junior high program."

Kearney and Donathan are returning state qualifiers, Murnan added.

"We have high expectations, we want to be on the board and we think we can be high on the board," Murnan said referring to the scoreboard at state. "But up there (at state) crazy things can happen. I do know our kids will come to wrestle."

The Team heads into the State Individual Tournament with the following post season team accomplishments.

The girls fell to Oak Hills on Thursday by a score of 2537-2165. The was led by Miriam Markvan's 370 and Morgan Motteshed's 359.

Next up they host Lebanon on Monday, Dec. 8th.

12/8 Lebanon won 2230-1937 2-1 1-1

Mason girls bowling defeated Lebanon on Monday by a score of 2230-1937. They were led by Kelsey Mitchel's 335 series.

Next up the team will participate in the Holiday Classic at Western Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 13th.

             
12/13 Holiday Classic @ Western Bowl        

The Mason girls bowling team finished 4th at the Holiday Bowl Classic over this past weekend. They moved up 4 places during Baker games and at one point had moved into 2nd place. Their baker average was 181. Kelsey Mitchel placed 5th overall and made the all tournament team with a 198 average for the day.

Next up the team will host Colerain on Monday, Dec. 15th.

12/15 Colerain won 2340-1797 3-1 2-1

The girls bowling team played very well on Monday beating Colerain 2340 to 1797. The Lady Comets were led by Kelsey Mitchell's 400, followed by Brianna Poirer's 387.

Next up the Mason bowling teams compete in the Eastern Lanes Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29th.

12/29 Eastern Lanes Holiday Tournament        

The Mason girls bowling team did well at the Eastern Lanes Holiday Tourament on Dec. 29th finishing in the 6th spot overall. Kelsey had a team high 564. That 564 was 1 pin from 10th place on the all tournament team.

Next up Mason will host Reading HS on Monday, January 5th.

Mason girls defeated Reading 2467 to 1440 on Monday afternoon. High scorer was Morgan Mottashed with a 353 2 game series.

The Lady Comets are 4-1 overall and will host Lakota East on Monday, Jan. 12th.

1/7 Lakota East won 2315-1774 5-1 3-1

Mason girls bowling defeated Lakota East on Wednesday by a score of 2315-1774. No other other information was available.

Next up they will host Middetown on Tuesday, Jan. 13th.

Girls Knock Off Undefeated Middies!

Mason high school girls bowling team bowled Middletown on Monday. Mason defeated the previously undefeated Middies in a great match.

Kelsey Mitchell led the way with a terrific 449 2 game series. This places the girls in a three way tie for first place in the GMC. Several girls had outstanding days also, Miriam Markvan bowled a 376 2 game series, followed closely by Gabriela Braxton's 367.

Mason girls got another win against McAuley on Tuesday by a score of 2568-2405. No other details provided.

Next up the bowling teams participate in the LaSalle Lancer Baker Bash this coming Saturday and Sunday.

The Lady Comet bowlers were 7th at the Beavercreek Baker Bash on Monday, Jan. 19th.

 

1/20 at Loveland won   8-1 3-1

Against Loveland on Tuesday, the girls bowled a 2353 series defeating loveland by 280 pins. They were led by Kelsey Mitchell with a 385 series.

Next up the team will host Hamilton on Friday, Jan. 23rd.

1/22 @ Turpin won 2534-1957 9-1 3-1

The girls bowlers defeated Turpin last Thursday 2534-1957 to advance their season record to 9-1. The team was led by Gabby Braxton who bowled a season high 417 2 game series.

Next up they will host Clinton-Massie on Monday, Jan. 26th.

1/26 Clinton-Massie won 2470-1793 11-1 4-1

The Lady Comet bowlers continued to bowl well defeating Clinton-Massie 2470 to 1793 last Monday. Kelsey Mitchell continues to lead the girls bowling 226, 224 for a terrific 450 series. Also of note was Miriam Markvan who also bowled a 402 series for the Comets.

Next up Mason will visit Fairfield on Wednesday, Jan. 28th.

1/28 at Fairfield won 2480-2317 12-1 5-1

The Mason girls continued a strong season knocking off Fairfield to maintain their tie in first place in the GMC. Kelsey Mitchell continued to lead the girls to victory with a 373 series. She was followed closely by Miriam Markvans' 351 and Morgan Motteshed's 350. Girls had a very strong baker series averaging over 180.

Next up Mason girls will host Princeton on Monday, February. 2nd.

1/29 @ Mother of Mercy won 2513- 13-1 5-1

Mason girls bowling team had another terrific night bowling a 2513 series against Mother of Mercy on Thursday, Jan. 29th. . That means for every game as a team they averaged 180. They have had 3 matches this year in the mid to high 2500's, this is the 4th.

The girls were led by a spectacular series thrown by Kelsey Mitchell. She bowled a first game 268, followed by a terrific 224. That 492 series is tops in the GMC. And her 268 is also the best individual game in the GMC. Another bowler of note is Miriam Markvan who has been bowling very well lately. She has bowled 3 of her last 4 series above a 190 average.

Next up Mason will host Princeton on Monday, February 2nd.

             
2/2 Princeton won 2382-2259 14-1 6-1

The Mason girls bowling team continued their winning ways by defeating Princeton 2382 to 2259 on Monday. Mason had great games by Gabby Braxton and Kelsey Mitchell. Gabby Braxton led the team with a 378 two game series. Morgan Evans subbed in and bowled the best 2 game series of her year, scoring 132,156. The girls were down going into bakers but steamrolled the vikings with a 710 baker series averaging over 177. Congrats to the girls who remain tied for first place in the GMC.

Next up Mason Bowlers visit Fenwick on Wednesday, Feb. 11th.

The Mason girls will be looking to roll to a GMC co-title on Monday, February 9th at Sycamore. A win and the girls will share the 2015 conference championship with Middletown and Oak Hills. It would the teams 2nd GMC championship.

2/9 @ Sycamore (makeup) won 2447-1389 15-1 7-1

GIRL BOWLING EARNS 2ND GMC TITLE

On Monday, the Mason Girls Bowling Team earned a spot as GMC Tri-Champs with a defeat of Sycamore. Mason will share the title with Middletown and Oak Hill, all finishing the league season at 7-1.  This is the Lady Comets 2nd GMC Championship, winning it all in 2012-13.  

Final score of the match with the Lady Aves was 2447-1389 Mason. Notable scores for the girls were Kelsey Mitchell's 439 series and MiriamMarkvan's 389 series.  

The team has had an amazing season with only one defeat and currently owing an overall record of 15-1.  Next up they visit Fenwick on Wednesday, Feb. 11th.


2/11 at Fenwick won 2337-1773 16-1 7-1

The Mason girls bowled very well scoring a 2337 to Fenwick's 1773 last Wednesday night, Feb. 11th. The big news of the day was Miriam Markvan bowling a 240,214 series. Her 454 series places her 4th in the GMC for High Series, and 10th overall for high game.

Post season action gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 25th.

2/25 SECTIONALS        

On Wednesday the Mason girls bowled their Sectionals at Colerain bowl. They had a fantastic day bowling some of the best of the season.

Gabriella braxton bowled her best series of the year with a 616 3 game series and finished 3rd overall.
Kelsey Mitchell had a terrific 606 series and finished in 6th place overall. Miriam Markvan finished in 10th place with a 546 series. Brianna Poirer had a 522 to finish in 15th place.


The girls overall finished in second place and will move on to districts at Beaver vue lanes next Thursday, March 5th.

@ Beaver-Vu Bowl

       

The Lady Comet bowlers concluded their 2014-15 sesaon last week at District finishing 16th overall. Unfortunately, no Mason girl was able to advance to state.

The Comets had an awesome season, capturing their 2nd GMC title and an overall record of 17-1.

The Mason boys sufferred a loss to Oak Hills on Thursday by a score of 2781-2522. Boys were led by Chris McPherson's 514.

12/6 Big Blue Tourney        

The boys bowling team participated in the Hamilton "Big Blue " tournament this past week end. They came together very well posting a season high first game of 1016. There were some struggles but they posted a fantastic third overall baker round, averaging 208.
The teams noteworthy achievement was posted by Chris McPherson. He came in second overall with a 673 3 game series.

Next up Mason will host Lebanon on Monday, Dec. 8th.

The boys bowling team knocked off GMC foe Lakota West on Tuesday by a score of 2551-1889. They were led by Chris McPherson's 444 and Karel Encarnacion's 414.

The boys were defeated by Colerain 2726 to 2631 on Monday afternoon. They were led by Evan Haas and Chris McPherson. Evan shot a terrific 453 series and Chris shot a 444 series. The boys managed to bowl their 3rd 1000 series and are looking forward to improving their position in the GMC next time out.

The Mason boy bowlers had their best game of the year on Monday. The team bowled a 2809 to Clinton-masse's 2586. Chris Mcpherson had the high series with a 438, but 4 of the 5 starters had over 400, in their 2 game series.

The Mason boys struggled against Fairfield who had their best day of the year. The Comets fell by a score of 2984-2630. Mason only had two bowlers bowl above their average. Chris McPherson had a strong 459 2 game series, followed by David Neal's 411 series. boys continue to struggle in a very tough GMC where the top 8 teams out of ten expect to move on to districts in the end of year tournament.

Next up Mason will visit St. Xavier on Friday, Jan., 30th.

The boys had a busy weekend, They bowled St.X on Friday night and defeated them 2579 to 2437.
The team was led by Evan Haas who bowled a 233, 226 series, followed by Chris McPherson's 212, 214 series.

 

1/31 Crusader Challenge        

On Saturday the freshman and sophomore boys bowled in a challenge at crossgate lanes.
?Evan Haas came in first with a 475 two game series?, the team finished third after a fantastic 5 game baker series. Their 1016 was the best in the field.

Next up the boys will host Princeton on Monday, Feb. 2nd.

2/2 Princeton lost 2819-2764 9-7 3-5

?The boys bowled well but were outlasted by Princeton on Monday. Mason boys bowled a 2764 and on most days that would be enough to win. Unfortunately Princeton also bowled very well and defeated the comets 2819 to our 2764. It was a very good match and the boys came back from a 40 pin deficit to tie it up going into the 3rd baker game. ?Princeton then managed 2 games in the 200's with mason bowling a 189,172. It was a disappointing loss dropping mason boys to 7th place.

Next up Mason Bowlers visit Sycamore on Monday, February 9th.

The boys bowled well defeating the Aviators 2722 to 2040 on Monday.Notable scores were Chris McPherson's 417 series and Devon Smith's 415 series. Boys had a terrific baker series scoring 815 in 4 games.

Next up the visit Fenwick on Wednesday, Feb. 11th.

2/11 at Fenwick        

The boys team defeated Fenwick Feb. 11th by a score of 2731-1909. Highlights for Mason were Chris McPherson and Evan Haas. Chris Bowled a very nice 426 series. Evan Haas however had an outstanding day bowling a terrific 487 2 game series.

Post season action gets underway on Thursday, February 26th.

2/26 SECTIONALS        

On Thursday the Mason boys traveled to Crossgate lanes to bowl their Sectionals. The boys picked the right time to bowl their best tournament of the season.


Evan Haas finished 5th overall with a 663 three game series. Karel Encarnacion finished in 10th with a 655.
Chris McPherson finished in 15th place with a 640 series. David Neal finished in 25th place with a 605 series.


The boys finished in 4th place overall and will bowl next Wednesday at Beaver-Vu lanes in Beavercreek. Boys managed something on Thursday that they had been struggling to do all year. They finished the day averaging over 200 for each and every game thrown. A 4200 would be 200 for 21 games. They finished with a team score of 4211.

Outstanding overall and congrats to all the players and coaches...good luck at Districts!

@ Beaver-Vu Lanes

       

The Mason boys bowling team concluded their season at Districts last week finishing 21st overall. Comet overall scores were low amidst some standout competition. The lone standout was Karel Encarnation who place 19th overall and missed the cut for state by only 23 pins.

11/15 East Clinton Cheer & Dance 2nd place Mason Competition Cheer attended the East Clinton Cheerleading Competition on Saturday, 11/15/14. The Comets came in 2nd place, behind a leading team in the state, outscoring the 3rd place team by 70 points!
11/22 Franklin Cheer & Dance 1st place

On Saturday, 11/22/14, the Mason High School Competition Cheerleading team took 1st Place in Large Varsity at the Franklin High School Cheerleading Competition.

They will compete next at the 3rd Annual Cincinnati Cheer for a Cure event at Lakota West High School on Saturday, December 6, 2014. We invite you to come out and support our team and a great cause!

12/6 Cheer For A Cure, Cincinnati, OH 1st place The Mason Competition Cheer team attended Cheer for a Cure Cincinnati this weekend where they earned 1st place in the Large Varsity Division. Next they will attend the OAC Cheerleading State Championship at Worthington Kilbourne High School on January 11, 2015.
1/11 OAC State Championship  

The Competition Cheer squad competed at the OAC State Championships this past Sunday. Unfortunately Mason missed qualifying for the 2nd round by 1.2 points.

Next up for the Comp Cheer team is JamFest Cheer Super Nationals on Saturday, Jan. 17th.

1/17 Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals  

The Mason Competition Cheer team attended the Jamfest Cheer Super Nationals in Indianapolis this weekend. At the end of day one, Mason found themselves in 3rd place, only 0.93 behind the 1st place team.

The team made adjustments and came out on day 2 to deliver a nearly flawless routine, outscoring all other teams in their division. The top score for day two was enough to put them into 2nd place overall, just 0.43 behind 1st place.

Next up is the Ohio State Competition on Sunday, Feb. 1st.

      The Comp Cheer Team will participate in the GO Red Cheer & Dance Competition next Sunday, 2/8/15 at Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio.
2/8 Go Red Cheer and Dance 1st The Mason Comp Cheer team attended the GO RED Cheer & Dance Competition at Hobart Arena on Sunday, 2/8/15. They won 1st place in the Advanced Varsity Non-Mount division, were High Point Champions and were offered a Full-Paid Bid to the US Finals in Indianapolis. Also, congratulations to Chloe Shepherd who won her first High School Jump Off of the season with her inverted toe-touch!

The Comp team will attend the Spring Fling Cheer & Dance Open Nationals at the Dayton Convention Center on 3/8/15 to end their season.

Competition Cheer Earns National Title!

On Sunday, March 8, the MHS Comp team ended their season at the GMCE Nationals earning the title of National Champions in the Varsity Non-Mount division and Grand Champion in school/rec divisions. Comet Chloe Shepherd also won the high school jump off.
