Gymnasts First at Elk Invite
Mason Wins Elk Invitational!
Mason Gymnastics had another record breaking meet as the Comets smashed their team record by over 1 ½ points Sunday, winning the 2012 Centerville Elk Invitational with a 140.6. Sophomore Audrey Harpen also broke a 7-year old school All Around record by winning the all around competition with a 35.925. The previous record was held by Shannon DeHart since 2005. Harpen scored for the Comets on all 4 events.
The Comets placed 4 all around athletes in the top 8. In addition to Harpen, senior Amythest Gauthier placed 4th (34.6), freshman Kylie Agin placed 6th (33.225), and sophomore Brooke Middleton (32.8) placed 8th. Gauthier also won the vault and bars competition scoring a 9.225 and an 8.925, respectively.
Other contributors to the Comets record breaking win were seniors Lauren Robertson (3rd on beam, 9th on vault) and Lindsay Woehrmyer (4th on floor, 10th on bars). Additonal highlights of the meet included debuts of successful skills by freshmen Ashley Clark & Nina Tavernier (floor) and Middleton (beam) and personal records set by Gauthier (vault, bars, beam), junior Kelly Schweppe (beam and floor), and for the 2nd week in a row, Woehrmyer on bars and floor.
The Comets are in action again this Saturday, January 28th @ the large 19-team Lakota East Invitational.
