Record Breaking Year Earns Mason Another GMC All Sports Trophy
MASON CAPTURES 5TH CONSECUTIVE GMC ALL SPORTS TROPHY
The Greater Miami Conference (GMC) recently announced, that for the fifth consecutive year, Mason High School has won the league's top honor, the All Sports Championship. The Comets set a new mark in the 2012 conference rankings, garnering a total of 220 points and outdistancing the nearest competitor (Sycamore) by more than 53 points.
Mason earned a record 9 GMC team titles; Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Chess, Girls Swimming/Diving, Wrestling, Baseball, Boys Track, Girls Track and Boys Tennis. Addtionally, the school finished 2nd in 8 other team sports; Boys Golf, Girls Golf, Boys Soccer, Girls Soccer, Girls Tennis, Academic Quizzing, Boys Swimming/Diving and Boys Basketball. Mason finished 1st or 2nd in 17 of the league's 24 sports and has won the coveted All Sports Trophy every year since entering the GMC in 2007.
"Once again I commend our student-athletes and coaches on their commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field," said Mason Athletic Director Scott Stemple. "The support of the Mason athletic community (parents, maintenance staff and administrators) continues to enhance our ability to be successful."
The ten member schools of the Greater Miami Conference (GMC) compete in twenty-four sports. In each sport 11 points are awarded for a conference championship, 9 for runner-up, 8 for third, etc.. The points are tallied at the end of the spring season and the school with the highest total gains possession of the traveling trophy (shown below).
