It was a big weekend for Mason teams...see below!

BOYS SWIMMING/DIVING WIN GMC TITLES!

 

Congratulations to the boys swimming & diving teams for winning GMC team titles over the weekend. The boys regained their league swimming title, after a 2 year absence beating runner-up Sycamore by over 130 points. This is their 5th overall GMC title. 

 

Congratulations to Ethan Devyak for being named GMC Boys Swimmer of the Meet. Ethan was 2nd in the 200 Freestyle & won the 100 Freestyle. In addition the following swimmers won a league title:

 

Boys 200 Medley Relay – Scott Shepherd, Puran Kansaker, Lonnie Chien, & Mike Jones *League & Pool Record

 

Mike Jones won the 50 Free

 

Ethan Devyak won the 100 Butterfly

 

Boys 200 Freestyle Relay – Lonnie Chien, Mike Jones, Karson Walker, & Ethan Devyak

Boys 400 Freestyle Relay – Karson Walker, Ethan Devyak, & Joel Thatcher

 

Our divers performed very well Friday night. Our boy divers finished 1, 2, 3 in this order Allen Feng, Matthew Wagner, & Chad Petersen. Allen was named Diver of the Meet. 

 

Next up for Mason is the Sectional Championships, with Diving on Tuesday, Feb. 7th and Swimming on Friday, Feb. 10th. 

 

BOYS DIVISION I ADVANCERS TO DISTRICT

In the individual events, the fastest 32 swimmers in the event will advance to the District meet. However, each sectional site (Centerville, Keating, Mason, and Trotwood) will advance two (2) automatic qualifiers. Any automatic qualifier not in the top 32 will be added at the end in open lanes.

 

For relay events, the fastest 24 relay teams in the event will advance to the District meet. However, each site (Centerville, Keating, Mason, and Trotwood) will advance two (2) automatic qualifiers. Any automatic qualifier not in the top 24 will be added at the end in open lanes.

 

In Boys Division I Diving, divers from the Keating, Mason, and combined Centerville/Trotwood sites will each qualify two (2) divers for a total of six (6) automatic qualifiers. In addition, eighteen (18) at large divers (based on scores) will advance for a field of twenty-four (24) qualifying to the district meet.

 

GIRLS SWIMMING WINS 10TH STRAIGHT GMC CHAMPIONSHIP!

 

Congratulations to the girls swimming team for winning their GMC team title over the weekend. This is the girl’s 10th straight league title finishing 280 points ahead of Lakota West. The Comets have won the league title every year since entering the GMC in 2008-09.

 

Congratulations to Ashley Volpenhein and Allison Bloebaum for being named GMC Swimmers of the Meet. Ashley won the 50 & 100 Freestyle, while Allison won the 200 & 500 Freestyle. Head Coach Mark Sullivan earned another GMC Coach of the Year honor.  This was Ashley’s 4th year that she has won this award. In addition the following swimmers won a league title:

 

Girls 200 Medley Relay – Caroline Wolf, Lauren Thomas, Harna Minezawa, & McKenzie Grau

 

Allison Bloebaum won the 200 & 500 Freestyle

Ashley Volpenhein won the 50 & 100 Freestyle

Lauren Thomas won the 200 IM

 

Harna Minezawa won the 100 Fly

Our divers performed very well Friday night. Julia Dilley finished 8th, while Grace Daubenmerkl, Kate Moeller, & Lauren Rose finished 10th, 11th, & 16th.

 

Next up for Mason is the Sectional Championships, with Diving on Wednesday, Feb. 8th and Swimming on Saturday, Feb. 11th.

WRESTLING TEAM WINS 7TH STRAIGHT GMC TITLE 

 

 

The Comet wrestling team won their seventh consecutive GMC Championship on Saturday, Feb. 4th in dominating fashion. Mason placed wrestlers in 11 of 14 weight classes reaching the championship match. The team scored 242 team points, 80 points clear of 2nd place Fairfield. Congratulations to Zach Donathan, GMC Wrestler of the Year, Ryan Root, GMC Coach of the Year. See results below:

Mason travel’s to St John Arena in Columbus next Sunday, Feb. 12th for the State Dual Team finals.

 

The OHSAA Sectional Championships will be held at Lebanon HS on Friday, Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25th. Each sectional will qualify the top four (4) wrestlers in each weight class to the district tournament.
