MASON SOFTBALL Defeats East in GMC Marathon!
Comets Run The Table In the League!
The Mason Girls Softball Team won a thrilling extra inning game against rival Lakota East on Thursday to secure their third outright GMC title (17, 15, 10) and 5th overall (shared 16, 14) since entering the league 10 years ago (07-08). Final score Mason 3 and Lakota East 2 in 13 innings.
Its was another rainy day at the Mason Softball complex where the seniors played their last home game. After multiple attempts to replay a game that would decide the GMC Championship, Thursday's weather held off and the Comets won an exciting back and forth affair over a determined Thunderhawk squad. Freshman Tori O'Brien drove in Jill Aquilia with the winning run from third in the bottom of the 13th to seal the win and start the celebration.
Senior Elle Buffenbarger(20-3) was the winning pitcher. O'Brien was also credited with all 3 RBI's in the contest. The Comets also had good offense from Ali Weekley, Senior Brooke Rice, Senior Meg Hubbard and Abbey Mullins.
The Comets defense was solid as usual. O'Brien, Ali Weekley, Meg Hubbard, Zoe Bishop, Elana Harrison, Jill Aquilia were fantastic on D. Brooke Rice caught a great game with a highlight play gunning down the lead off hitter stealing second.
It was a great team win and marks the 2nd time the Comet softball team has gone undefeated in the conference (2015).
Mason (23-3) will now return to tournament action Monday 5/15 against Anderson at Sycamore. Game time is 5:00pm
