Once again the Mason Boys Track and Field team surprised everyone and won another District Championship on their home turf last Friday night. The meet started with an average performance on day one, but day two things really came together.
Carter Witmer Gautsch was a monster winning both hurdle races. Andrew Kemme and Tunde Nelson both made it out too.   The 4x2 team qualified to Regionals and the 4x1 team shocked Sycamore and won.  Brian Hudnell somehow made it to Regionals in the 200-meter dash and the distance boys had a great night too.
Mikey Loehr got 2nd in the 1600 and Abel Nijakowski won the 3200.  Vince Jackson took second in the high jump and Davis Roby qualified in the shot put. Chris Simmons made it out in the long jump and Josh Huber won the pole vault.
The last event on the track Friday night was the 4x400 and it was all fitting that Matt Miller brought the baton home for his last victory as a Comet with his best time of the season.
Now its on to the Regional Championships at Dayton's Welcome Stadium this Wednesday and Friday. The Mason boys team last won back-to-back titles in the 2013 and 2014 season and were runner-ups the past two seasons.
The first four in each event will qualify for the State Championships at OSU's Jesse Owens Stadium on June 2nd and June 3rd.
