Football team headed to post season
Mason secured a 3rd seed in the upcoming OHSAA Division Playoffs with resounding 36-0 shutout at Lakota East last Friday night. On a very ugly night weather wise, the Comets were focused and dominant, exacting a little revenge on the Thunderhawks after a loss to them in 2016.
Mason rolled up 384 yards of offense while the defense held the Hawks to just 126. The Comets had a 29-0 lead at the half. It was not a great night to pass the slippery pig skin as both teams combined for a total 6 pass completions.
Matt Sora led Mason with 168 yards rushing on 16 attempts and two TD's. Logan Dalton also had a big night with 109 yards on 11 carries and 1 TD. Connor Garry added 44 yards rushing on just 3 attempts and also scored a TD. Backup QB Jake Harris steadied the offense after starter Will Adams who left early in the game with an injury.
Mason Football (8-2, 6-2) will be making their 3rd consecutive appearance in the Region 4 OHSAA FB playoffs. The Comets, who finished in a three-way tie for 2nd in the GMC this season, has post season appearances in 2004, 2011, 2015, 2016 and now 2017. Last season Mason won their first D1 playoff game with a 21-20 win over Elder.
The GMC placed 4 teams in the upcoming tourney; Colerian (2), Mason (3), Sycamore (4) and Fairfield (8). The top 8 teams in region four earned playoff berths with Mason being the #3 seed overall and will get a first round home game this Friday at Atrium Stadium against #6 seed West Clermont
