4/5 Hamilton won 11-1 7-1 4-0 Mason Baseball resumed on Friday with a 11-1 win at home versus Hamilton. Michael Bilo got the win from the mound, giving up only 3 hits and a run in the 5-inning affair. Anthony Sulek hat two hits in the game and 3 RBI.
4/7 @ Hamilton (makeup) won 9-2 8-1 5-0

On Sunday, 4/7, the Comets earned another win at Big Blue by a score of 9-2. Bryce Bannon got the win for the Comets going 4 innings and surrendering 3 hits and a run. Jacob Hanley and Drew Stevens both had a pair of hits in the game.

Mason (8-1, 5-0) will host Fairfield on Tuesday, 4/9.

4/9 Fairfield won 2-0 9-1 6-0

Mason BB earned a 2-0 shutout win over Fairfield at home on Tuesday behinds the outstanding pitching of Jacob Hanley. Hanley, pitching before a bevy of MLB scouts, stymied the Indians only 1 hit and giving only one walk. The Comets got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the 6th. Mason also found the offense difficult to come by registering only two hits by Casey Doner and Drew Stevens.

4/10 @ Fairfield won 1-0 10-1 7-0

On Wednesday, the same two teams danced around the raindrops to get the 2nd game in at Fairfield. The rain shortened affair ended with the Comets getting a 1-0 win. Ben Hanley limited Fairfield to just 3 hits on the day.

Mason got it's only run across in the top of the 5th, with the rains coming after the Indians batted in the bottom of the inning. Jacob Hanley and Brad Hart both had the only hits for Mason with Hart producing the winning RBI.

Mason stays undefeated in the GMC with a 7-0 record and 10-1 overall.

The Comets are scheduled to play at Lakota West TODAY, 4/12, pending weather conditions. Mason has a non-conference game versus Kings on Friday, 4/13 at 6:30 pm at Prasco Park.

4/12 @ West         Mason and Lakota West tried to start their game on Friday but were stormed out at the last minute. The makeup date is TBA.
4/13 Kings WON 6-2 11-1 7-0 Mason defeated Kings Saturday night at Prasco Park 6-2.  Mason came out strong in the first inning scoring 4 runs.  Bryce Brannon led the way on the mound pitching 5 strong innings.  Eric Schmulwitz and Andrew Visconti threw one inning each with Visconti earning the save.  
Offensively the Comets were led by Casey Doner collecting 2 hits and 2 RBI.  Drew Stevens, Alex Koelling, and Jake Hanley also had 2 hits each as the Comets' offense totaled 11 hits.  
The Comets are now 11-1 on the season and 7-0 in the GMC and will face Lakota West on TODAY, Monday, April 15th at Xavier University as part of the Reds Future Showcase.  Game time is 5:00

4/15 West @ St. X won 4-1 12-1 8-0

In a hard-fought game between GMC rivals, Mason pulled out a tough victory 4-1 over Lakota West at Xavier University's Hayden Field on Monday, 4/15.  The two teams participated in the Reds Showcase and Casey Doner was named the game's MVP. 

Casey helped the Comets get on the scoreboard with a two-run double in the first inning.  As it turned out, those were all the runs that would be needed as Jacob Hanley and Michael Bilo shut down the Thunderhawks offense combining for 12 strikeouts while giving up one run.  

Mason was able to tack on a few insurance runs by scoring a run in the third and sixth innings.  Other key offensive contributors were Drew Stevens, Jacob Hanley, whose single in the first started the two-run rally, and Mark Rutherford who had a key sacrifice fly to score the run in the third inning.  

 

The Comets (12-1, 8-0) stay undefeated in GMC play and return to action TODAY, Wednesday, April 17th at home when the take on the Highlanders of Oak Hills.
4/17 Oak Hills won 3-2 13-1 9-0 The first and second-place league rivals battled to a close victory for Mason this afternoon.  The Comets were able to pull out a 3-2 victory when Anthony Sulek hit an RBI triple to score the winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Ben Hanley came on to earn the save in the top of the 7th to close out the victory.
Andrew Visconti started on the mound for the Comets and pitched three scoreless innings.  Eric Schmulwitz pitched the middle three innings before handing the game over to Ben Hanley in the seventh.  
Mason scored first, crossing the plate with a run in the second and third innings.  Oak Hills responded with two unearned runs in the fourth to tie the game.  Both teams were held scoreless until Jake Hanley scored the go-ahead run with two outs in the sixth inning when Sulek tripled.
Mason goes for the sweep when they travel to Oak Hills on Friday, April 19th for a 5:00 game.

4/5 @ West won 6-5 4-2 4-0 Mason Softball earned a big GMC win at West on Friday, defeating the Firebirds 6-5 in extra innings. Alisha Fox got the win for the Comets. Halle Martin was the Mason hittling leader with 3 hits in the game.
4/6 Miamisburg lost 10-4 4-3 4-0 Mason SB fell to both Miamisburg and Wayne in a twin bill on Saturday by scores of 10-4 and 9-7, respectively.

On Sunday, the Comets hosted Sycamore in a makeup game and kept their GMC record perfect at 5-0 with a 11-1 whalloping of the Aves. No details were available.

4/9 Princeton won 11-0 6-4 6-0 Mason Softball was back in action on Tuesday run-ruling Princeton at home 11-0. Alisha Fox got the win from the mound limiting the Vikings to just 1 hit. Alea Hensley led the Comets in hitting going 3-4, while Peyton Scherz was 3-3.
4/10 @ Colerain won 14-4 7-4 7-0

On Wednesday, Colerain and Mason played in a rain dampened affair at Mason. Final score was 14-4 Comets in another run-rule affair. No details were available.

Mason stays undefeated in the GMC at 7-0 and 7-4 overall.

Mason Softball game at home versus Centerville on Friday was stormed out at the last minute. No makeup date has been scheduled.

The Comets (7-4, 7-0) will host Middletown, TODAY, Monday, 4/15. On Tuesday, Mason will host East Central Indiana.

Mason sophomore tossed a complete game no-hitter on Monday versus Middletown at home. Polca missed a perfect game giving up a single walk in the 13-0 rout of the Middies. Brooke henson and Addie McBrayer shined at the plate going 3-3. Avery Blinn smashed an HR in the game.

4/16 East Central (IN) won 15-12 9-4 8-0

The Comets host East Central Indiana on Tuesday in an offensive showcase. Mason came away with a 15-12 non-confernece win. No details of the game were available.

Next up, Mason (9-4, 8-0) will visit Sycamore TODAY, Wednesday, 4/17. The will host Oak Hills on Thursday in a makeup contest.

4/17 @ Sycamore won 10-0 10-4 9-0 Mason Softball completed another run-rule game on Wednesday, this time at Sycamore by a final of 10-0. Alisha Fox and Anna Polca combined on the 2-hit shutout. Anna Geiser went 3-4 at the plate.

2-0 0-0 Boys volleyball starts the season off sweeping Milford 30-28, 25-20 and Chaminade Julienne 20-25,31-29,25-16 to start the season last Saturday, 3/23. The team was led by junior middles Connor Lape and Blake Lockhart with 34 kills in the two matches .
3/18 West Clermont won 27-25,25-17,25-12 3-0 0-0 On Monday, 3/18, Mason defeated West Clermont 27-25,25-17,25-12. It was a great serving performance by the entire team, serving at 96% led by seniors Brady Smith with a perfect 12 for 12 and Tyler Smith  with 6 aces.

Mason Volleyball racked up their 4th consecutive win to start the season on Wednesday, 3/20. The Comets took down Edgewood by scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-16 to send their overall record to 4-0!

Congratulations the boys volleyball winning their eighth straight game in a  row on Tuesday and winning their first GMC match of the year defeating Lakota West 29-27, 24-26,25-15,30-28.
Great all-around play from junior Blake Lockhart.
And at a key point of the game, senior Ved Patel came off the bench to have some big serves when the team was struggling the entire night at the service line he had zero errors and two aces to finish off the fourth game.

On Friday April 5th, the Boys and Girls Track and Field Teams fought at the CHCA Coaches Classic. A total of 21 teams from the greater Cincinnati area competed. 


Boys Track and Field: The boys team finished 1st and was 13.5 points ahead of the 2nd place team. 

  • 1st place finishes:

    • 4x800 Relay (Buckalew, Greco, Hayden, Vaz)

3/16 Mariemont lost 12-11 0-1 0-0

The Mason Girls Lacrosse team began their 2024 season with a heartbreaker loss to Mariemont on Saturday, 3/16. Mason was down 9-12 with 4:15 left in the game. The team did not give up and worked hard to cause turnovers, win the draw and find offensive opportunities.

The ladies were not able to make the comeback they wanted but the team’s perseverance and hard work by all was evident. Overall, Claire Baenziger led the Comets in goals with 6 and Kate Ryder also added 3. Kirsten Hurr was dominant on the draw control and Avery Davenport led in caused turnovers. 

Next up, Mason will host New Albany on Friday, 3/22. Over spring break they will also visit Lakota East on Thursday, 3/28.

3/22 New Albany lost 18-3 0-2 0-0 On Friday, 3/22 Mason hosted New Albany and fell 18-3. Mason had a tough loss. New Albany controlled the draw control leading to minimal possession for the Comets offense. Our defense held strong led by our two goalies, Emma Schlacter and Grace May, recording a total of 13 saves.
3/28 @ East lost 16-15 0-3 0-1

On March 28th, the Comets lost at Lakota East in overtime by a score of 16-15. The entire game was back and forth but Izzy Dean scored with about 2 minutes remaining to tie the game followed by an impressive defensive stop to send it into overtime. Zoey Miller led the way throughout the entire game on the offensive end and finished with 5 goals, 2 ground balls and a caused turnover. Kirsten Hurr was dominant on the draw control by controlling 5 as well as adding 4 goals.

The Comets match at home versus Oak Hills has been rescheduled for May 2nd.

Next up, Mason Girls LAX (0-3. 0-1) will host Lakota West on Thursday, 4/4.

4/2 Oak Hills         POSTPONED TO 5/2
4/4 West won 17-6 1-3 1-1

Mason secured their first win of the season against Lakota West at home on Thursday night. Final score was 17-6. It was a total team effort with crucial stops by our goalies, Emma Schlacter and Grace May, as well as offensive opportunities provided by Emily Hellmann (4 goals), Kate Ryder (5 goals) and Claire Baenziger (3 goals). Additionally 7 goals were assisted with Kate Ryder and Kirsten Hurr contributing 3 and 2 assists respectively. Mason also controlled the draw control (16 compared to 10 from East). Kirsten Hurr and Claire Baenziger were integral in that area of the field. 

Mason (1-3, 1-1) plays this Saturday up in Columbus against Dublin Coffman.


4/7 @ Dublin Coffman lost 16-13 1-4 1-1

The Mason Girls Lacrosse team lost a tough game against Dublin Coffman on Saturday by a score of 16-13. The team was down at half by 5 goals but managed to make it tied at 11 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. The Comets were led in goals by Claire Baenziger (4) and Kate Ryder (3). Our defense stood strong causing 7 turnovers. However, what really helped the team was the effort by the midfielders at the draw. Kirsten Hurr had 9 draw controls and Claire Baenziger had 8. Ultimately, Dublin Coffman secured the win but the Comets showed strength to battle back. 

Mason (1-4, 1-1) is at Sycamore on Tuesday, 4/9.

4/9 @ Sycamore lost 19-15 1-5 1-2

The Comets battled strong for 48 minutes but fell short at Sycamore on Tuesday night by a final score of 19-15. The entire game was back and forth and tied going into the 4th quarter. The team did not give up and worked hard to cause turnovers, win the draw and find offensive opportunities. 

Claire Baenziger had an outstanding game with 7 goals and 5 draw controls. Kate Ryder had 3 goals, Kirsten Hurr and Elle Riva had 2 goals each, and Ava Minogue had 1 goal.  

Mason (1-5, 1-2) will host Fairfield, TODAY, 4/11. On Saturday, the Comets host Indian Hill.

4/11 Fairfield won 18-5 2-5 2-2

The Mason Girls lacrosse team captured their second win in the GMC against Fairfield on Thursday, 4/11. Offensively, 8 different players scored for the Comets. Zoey Miller led the scoring with 5 goals followed by Kirsten Hurr with 3. Elle Riva, Kate Ryder, Maddie Ryan and Claire Baenziger each had 2 goals. Emily Hellmann and Ava Minogue had one each. The entire team gathered 14 ground balls and controlled the draw with 16 draw controls. 


4/13 Indian Hill lost 19-15 2-6 2-2

The Mason Girls lacrosse team took a tough loss vs Indian Hill on Saturday. Indian Hill quickly found the back of the net three times within the first couple minutes. However, by the end of the first quarter, Mason had rallied to hold a 7-5 lead. During the 2ndquarter, the Braves took the lead again and never looked back. Emily Hellman had 3 goals, while Claire Baenziger and Ella Rumpke had 2 apiece. Kate Ryder, Izzy Dean and Kirsten Hurr also added 1 each. Anna Schmeichel had a strong game on defense for the Comets with 3 caused turnovers and 1 ground ball. Avery Davenport had 2 caused turnovers and 2 ground balls. 

The Comets play Lakota East at home on Tuesday which is a rematch from an overtime game earlier this season!

4/16 East won 17-13 3-6 3-2

The Comets Girl's LAX team was able to avenge an earlier overtime loss to Lakota East on Tuesday night at home defeating the Hawks 17-13. Although East got the first goal, the Comet’s quickly answered with goals by Kirsten Hurr and Kate Ryder. Hurr ended the game with 4 goals total and Ryder had 2. Zoey Miller also had an outstanding game with 6 goals. Maddie Ryan and Emily Hellmann had two a piece as well. Claire Baenziger was dominant on the draw and controlled 11 with the team grabbing 18 in total. The team also caused 8 turnovers throughout the game. 

Mason (3-6, 3-2) will visit Oak Hills on Thursday, 4/18.
