9/1 Lebanon Invitational Mason-1st place

The girls won the Lebanon Invite, with a solid pack of girls up front, and a
nice support crew. We had a good meet, as we rested some of our top
runners, and used this meet to focus on our pack running, and teamwork. The
girls looked great, with impressive performances again by Alyssa Ross (F)
and Brenna Hallum (F.) The surprise of the day was our resident
cheerleader, Rachel Harley, who had her best race by far, and ran right
along side our normal varsity runners! Great job ladies.

but beat local rivals Loveland and Anderson. The girls were led by Alyssa

We also had a great race by our B team that won in overwhelming fashion. They were led by Trish Wolford who would have been the 5th runner on Varsity had she been in the race. Great job ladies.

9/29 Fairmont 1st place!

This weekend the Lady Comets of Mason had a great meet. They were up against a strong field in Kettering, including the likes of Springboro, Colerain, Kings, Thomas Worthington, Beavercreek and others.
The comets ran their top racers against some of the city's best and were able to log a victory. They were led by Senior, Stephanie Chaney, and followed closely behind by several others, including another Senior Danielle Terreri. These girls are really clicking now, and look strong as they head into the post season. The girls are running very well together and only had a "spread" of 19 seconds from the 2nd to the 7th runner, with the top 5 placing in the top 20 of the Firebird Inivite in Kettering.

COMET GIRLS WIN REGIONAL

ADVANCE TO STATE!

The girls CC team ran at Pickerington this weekend and made a huge leep from their previous performances. They had struggled in the past 2 weeks, but bounced back and ran well! They were focused and knew that Kings and Dublin Coffman were the teams to watch, and they were able to beat them by just a few points. The score was very close, with the top 5 teams being within 15 points of one another. The top runner for Mason was Steph Chaney, but the star of the day was Emily Staresinic who ran the race of her life and saved the day for the Comets. She had a solid time on this very tough course and helped carry the team to victroy. The Comets also got a great run out of our other senior, Danielle Terreri who placed quite well. The team looked great, and we are very hopeful fo the future.

Moeller (6:15)

 lost 24-7 0-1 0-0

Mason, in its first game under new coach Dave Sedmak, showed a solid defense but generated only 95 yards of offense. The Comets only score came off a turnover off a bad shotgun snap in the first quarter giving Mason a short field that turned into an 11-yard TD run by Andy Porter that tied the game at 7-7.  "We have to get better," said Mason's Sedmak. "We couldn't get in any rhythm on offense. But we still have a long way to go obviously, and I'm still confident we'll get there."

Game stats
8/31 Anderson lost 35-12 0-2 0-0 Not many highlights in the Comet loss to the Redskins. Anderson's victory was a first over Mason in the past serveral years.  Andy Proter and Grant Lewis scored TDs for Mason.  Mychael Bembry rushed for 84 yards on 22 carries.
9/7 Withrow lost 31-25 0-3 0-0 The Comets had the ball the entire third quarter as they recovered two consecutive onside kicks en route to scoring 21 unanswered points and taking a 25-21 fourth-quarter lead. Withrow regained the lead with four minutes left on a 70-yard touchdown strike from Juandez Brown to Darrion Brown, and capped the game with a field goal.

Season stats

9/13 Colerain (Thu.) lost 35-14 0-4 0-1 The Comets got a rude welcoming to the GMC by the visiting Cardianals.  With 52 consecutive GMC wins under their belt it really hasn't mattered to Colerain who they were playing.  Unfortunately for the Green and White they had the challenging task of facing a nationally ranked powerhouse before a huge crowd, broadcast by Fox Sports.  The Cardinals got on the board early with a touchdown by Dominic Sherrer (3 TD's) 1:45 into the contest.  It was 28-0 at half but the Comets scored two late TD's against the always tough Colerain defense on short runs by Andy Porter and Patrick Koman.

9/21 Fairfield won 21-12 1-4 1-1

Comets First GMC Win

The Comets methodical offensive attack dominated the game possessing the ball for 32 of the 48 minutes helping Mason to their first win of the season.  Mason's offense set the tone for the game with a 16-play, 81 yard scoring drive on their first possesion capped off by Andy Porter's two-yard scoring plunge.  Leading 14-12 with 9:31 remaining the Comet offense produced another clock killing seven minute drive to effectively put the game out of reach.  Junior running back Mike Bembry rushed for 231 yards on 32 carries.

Game stats

Season stats

9/28 Lakota East lost 27-20 1-5 1-2 The Comets created 364 yards of offense, but suffered three turnovers that led to three East TD's in the loss.  After being behind the entire game Mason tied it at 20 all with approx. 5 minutes to play in the 4th quarter on a Patrick Koman 14-yard TD run.  The Comets got the ball back with less than three minutes to play but lost the ball on their own 19.  East scored the winning TD with 15 seconds left in the contest.  Mychael Bembry rushed for 114 yards on 20 carries and 1 TD.  Tyler Kuehn kicked 20 and 28 yard field goals.

Season stats

10/5 Princeton lost 35-7 1-6 1-3 Not many highlights in a loss to the No. 4 rated team in the city.  Mychael Bembry rushed for Mason's lone TD (22 carries, 92 carries).  No other information available.

The Comets were led by returning lettermen Eric Prater (73) and Logan Long (78). The most exciting event that took place at this tournament was the scores of two first time varsity players Soph. Philip Kester (75) and Jr. Ryan Rocheck (80). The two rookies shook off the "first tee" jitters early and posted numbers that helped the Comets to an impressive 4th place finish against a very strong field.

Junior Kevin Bohn led the Comets with a solid round (40). He fired two birdies and struck the ball extremely well, unfortunately his putter let him down. His 4 over par round included four 3 putt greens. Senior Eric Prater also played very well with the exception of a disastrous 9 on the par 5 number five. The Comets will host LaSalle on Sept. 4. The first tee time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at The Four Bridges CC. It should be an exciting match featuring two of the top ten teams in Cincinnati.

Comets Top Lancers!!

Seniors Eric Prater (36) and Jeff Stephens (37) led the Comets to their biggest victory of the year over LaSalle one of the premiere teams in the city.

Sophomore Brennan Kallmyer fired his best round of the year (39) in helping the Mason golfers post the win. We talked about how poorly we have been performing to this point in the season, and how many shots we were leaving on the course. Hopefully this win will get us moving in the right direction. We have the most important part of the season staring right at us.

Junior Kevin Bohn fired a 1 under par 35 to lead the Comets past undefeated Sycamore at Four Bridges. He was supported by senior Eric Prater who also had an outstanding round by dropping two birdies on his way to an even par 36. The biggest surprise of the day was turned in by freshman Evan Bryan. Evan playing in his first varsity match battled the winds and nerves to post a very impressive 40. Junior Robert Elam was able to provide the fourth score with a 43.

The Mason Varsity Golf Team ended their season with a disappointing loss to Elder. The victory over Anderson isn't as sweet because we have played Elder for the past several years and have yet to beat them. Junior Kevin Bohn recorded the best number for Mason by shooting a 3 over par 39. Kevin has been our most consistent player the past month of the season. He along with Eric Prater have been our scoring leaders all year.

Mason Takes GMC Title

The Mason girls' golf team won the GMC championship with a two-round total of 641, beating defending state champion Lakota West by three strokes.

Junior Alexis Nelson and freshman Emily Wright led the Comets with 159s (average of 79.5 per round). The Comets put four girls on the first team all-GMC: Alexis, Emily, and freshmen Erin Michel and Jessica Zhang. Juniors Elizabeth Nebraski and Alli Wehrman made second-team all-GMC.

Mason was down one stroke with one golfer to go. Our fourth-best score at that point (the top four scores count) was an 84. This meant, in order to defeat West, our sixth golfer - freshman Erin Michel - had to shoot an 82 or better. She finished with an 80.
