MASON GIRLS GOLF WINS 2021 GMC TITLE IN RECORD-BREAKING STYLE!
It was another “record-breaking” day for the Mason Girls Golf program at the GMC Championships this past Tuesday and Wednesday. The Comets won their 3rd title in the past 4 years at Walden Ponds Golf Course, setting a new tourney record with a team score of 574 (288-286) and exceeding their last year’s best-ever league mark by 5 strokes.
The 2021 league tourney was another “GMC runaway” as the Comets outdistanced 2nd place Sycamore (615) by a whopping 41 strokes and 3rd place Lakota West (621) by 47 strokes. Lakota East was 4th (643) and Oak Hills 5th (684) to round out the top 5 in the conference.
“I’m extremely proud of this group and their accomplishment,” says head coach Chad Layton. “This team works incredibly hard at their sport and is dedicated to improving every day. They have really come together and developed over the course of the season. The past couple of days have been a good start to what will be a challenging postseason that’s ahead of us, and we’re looking forward to going through that together.”
The Mason ladies golf program has captured the GMC title 10 times in the 15 years since they entered the GMC in 2007. This year’s tourney win ties them with Lakota West (10) for the most league championships since 1993.
Mason senior Ally Madden, earned overall medalists honors, blistering the course with a 7-under par, two-day total of 137 (68-69). For her accomplishment, she was named the 2021 GMC Player of the Year. Head coach Chad Layton earned his third GMC Coach of the Year award in the past four years (2021, 2020, 2018).
Mason placed all 6 of their players on the All-GMC 1st Team:
ALLY MADDEN (12) 1st place (68-69)
KARLIE DILLON (11) 6th place (71-74)
DEMI XIE (12) 7th place-tie (75-72)

NICOLE XIE (12) 10th place (79-71)
