The Mason Athletic Department has chosen Ryan Root as the next head coach of the Comet Wrestling Program, pending school board approval. Root succeeds former long time coach Craig Murnan, who recently announced his decision to retire from coaching after an illustrious 14-year career. Ryan brings a wealth of experience to the Comets, both as a former athlete and coach. As a competitor, Root was a standout, 4-time high school state placer and All-American at Lakota High School (class of 1995). Additionally, he was a 3X Greco-Roman and Freestyle State Champion and senior National Finalist.
The Mason girls and boys basketball programs had tremendous seasons this year as evidenced by the recent announcement that their head coaches have received some special recognitions. Comet boys basketball coach Greg Richards and girls head Rob Matula have been named as the Ohio Girls and Boys Coaches of the Year by the Greater Cincinnati Basketball Hall of Fame (GCBHF).
