Girls Win Three State Swim Titles

COMETS EARN THREE TITLES AT STATE!

Mason Girls Swimming Team finished as OHSAA State Runner-up this past Saturday in Canton, Ohio! The team had an outstanding state meet and battled back and forth with Upper Arlington. Unfortunately Mason fell short by 10 points of winning a state championship. This was Mason's highest point finish ever at a state meet! Last season the Comets finished third at state.

DISTRICT CHAMPS! 

Sweet 16!!

The Mason Girls Basketball team overcame a sluggish start and determined opponent on Saturday, to win another District Title. The Comets used a fourth quarter surge and their own stingy defense to outlast McAuley in the District Championship by a score of 48-43 at Harrison. It was Mason's fourth overall district title and advances them to the OHSAA Regional "Sweet 16".

SECTIONAL CHAMPIONS!

The Mason boys won their second Division 1 Sectional title this past Friday with a 73-54 victory over Middletown at Lakota West. The Comets last won the title in the 2008-09 season. Mason won the Division 2 sectional and district in the 1993-94 season under Gary Popplewell.

This was the third win over the Middies this season and improved Mason's best all-time record to 22-1. Their only loss came at the hands of Dublin Jerome in the first game of the year. The Comets have now reeled off 22 straight wins and will advance to the District Championship.

Mason's Girls Basketball and Wrestling Teams completed successful weekends winning post season titles and advancing to the next level.  See below...

SECTIONAL CHAMPS-GIRLS BASKETBALL!!

The Mason Girls Basketball team (22-2) defended their Sectional Title on Friday night with a 64-29 romp over Kings. With the win the Comets punched their ticket to the District Final.

The amazing Mason Girls Swimming and Diving Team had an outstanding win Saturday night at the District Championships at Miami. The meet was incredibly close with St. Ursula. This was the girls 3rd District title in the last 4 years. See top ten team scores below:

MASON GIRLS WIN AGAIN AT SECTIONALS!

 

The Comet girl's swimming and diving team successfully defended their Sectional Championship this past weekend. Sixteen swimmers qualified for District at the event held at Mason. See results and qualifiers below:

 

Ashley Volpenhein - 50 & 100 Freestyle *set pool records in both

Allison Bloebaum - 200 Freestyle

Lauren Thomas - 200 IM & 100 Backstroke

Camille Nguyen - 100 Butterfly

200 Medley Relay - Caroline Wolf, Jordan Decker, Ashley Volpenhein, McKenna Killion

Competition Cheer Reaches State!

STATE QUALIFIERS!

 

The Mason Competition Cheerleading team earned a berth at the State Championships this past weekend.  The Comets qualified via the Regional event at Northwestern High School.  The state championships will be held in Columbus, Ohio at the Ohio State University, St. John Arena on Sunday, March 6.  

 

Next up.....is a Cheer Max competition on February 21st at Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio.

Coaching Milestone For Richards

Mason boys basketball coach Greg Richards is an extremely humble man and not one to seek any attention to himself, but on Tuesday night at Middletown, he reached a coaching milestone that wouldn't (and shouldn't) go unnoticed.  The Comets 68-57 win over the Middies helped their head coach win the 300th victory of his illustrious 21-year career and they've all come as a Comet.

BOYS BASKETBALL SECURES OUTRIGHT TITLE!

The Mason boys basketball team won their first outright GMC Championship last Friday! Mason earned a 67-50 win at Princeton to secure back-to-back league titles. Last season the Comets shared the championship with Lakota East. 

 

The win over the Vikings continues a string of 17 straight wins this season and keeps their GMC record perfect at 14-0 (17-1). Mason is the No. 2 ranked team in the city polls. Over the past three seasons the Comets are 51-10.
